Work at Devonport Base — NZ’s premier naval precinct.
High impact commercial role shaping major Defence outcomes.
Contribute to nationally vital programs.
About the Role
Babcock is expanding in New Zealand, and we’re looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team at the Devonport Naval Base. As the long‑term partner to the Royal New Zealand Navy, we support the full fleet, giving you the chance to work at the heart of a nationally significant maritime program.
In this role, you’ll provide high‑level commercial and bid support across our marine operations, partnering with senior leaders and the wider commercial function to ensure our strategic and operational activities are commercially robust. You’ll shape commercial outcomes, safeguard contractual obligations, and manage commercial risk across complex Defence and marine environments.
You’ll play a key role in contract development, negotiation and governance, support major tenders, guide stakeholders through commercial processes, and help embed best‑practice commercial frameworks across the business. This is a role where your expertise will influence decision‑making, strengthen customer relationships, and contribute directly to the success of one of New Zealand’s most important Defence partnerships.
If you’re looking to step into a high‑impact commercial position within a respected global organisation and want to help shape the future of our marine programs — we’d love to hear from you.
To be successful, you will bring:
Legally entitled to work in New Zealand and capable of obtaining a New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Security Clearance.
Degree/Bachelor/Masters in Business, Commence, Law or similar or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Extensive knowledge of commercial, contracts, subcontracts, procurement, supply-chain engagement and business management
Experience of engaging with national and international customers and suppliers
Experience in Commercial, civil, defence or government industries.
