Pros

- Good 401k / health benefits. - Free catered lunch on certain days of the week.

Cons

- The company culture here was arguably the worst I have ever experienced. There is absolutely no sense of camaraderie within most teams. - Promotions and salary increases are distributed based on favoritism and politics rather than merit (I've observed this on multiple occasions). - Work-life balance is abysmal, and leaves a lot to be desired. As an employee here, you are constantly put under pressure to work extra hours and achieve unrealistic goals within tight deadlines, and when you fail to achieve those unrealistic goals, more work is added to your plate as punishment. I can't imagine a more demoralizing way to treat the human beings that you call employees.

Pros

-I have met with extremely smart people at CGG. The Company has bleeding edge processing systems that are challenging and fun to work with. -They hire recent graduates, so it's a good company to work for if you want to start in oil and gas. -Well known in the market. Good resume builder. -Great campus and facilities. -Good 401k -Good Health Benefits -Flexible work hours

Cons

The career development structure in this company is terrible. Your technical skills and knowledge won't bring you anywhere unless you play the game of politics. You will see lots of mid-upper level managers in CGG that has no technical skill-set or character to be a manager. Most of them are in those positions because of their good-old-buddy network. This drives the smart people away from the company. There are lay-offs due to current oil and gas market, which is understandable. However, I think CGG is not handling the situation right. Instead of doing one mass layoff and be done with it, they distribute it to the days and weeks. This creates an extremely scare-driven and depressing work environment. Everybody gets nervous when they see HR walking the floors, and people lose their focus on their work. Very poor upper management. They blame the low oil and gas prices, but they keep forgetting the terrible financial decisions that they made in the past. Check the financial results, and the stock prices, you will see...

Pros

None if you are American. If you are a foreigner who is not Chinese or Indian, you can get green card fairly quickly.

Cons

- This is a mini North Korea in the middle of Chinatown; A culture of dictatorship persists where employees are subject to bondage labor after being held hostage while their green card is in process. - low pay and excessive work load - Vindictive management - A culture of narcissism exists in the imaging department - Low camaraderie - Incompetent management who reached their positions by sucking up to their masters. They are not suitable for running a business. - Company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and still has a lot of debt. Possible chapter 7 looms in the next couple of years. - Low job stability. Lots of terminations in the last 3 years. - The imaging department is swarmed with Chinese employees; most of whom barely speak a line of coherent English. So most employees speak in Chinese at the work place. - Toxic work environment with lot of Chinese nepotism - American wage deflation by hiring foreigners on low wages.
