I wish you well

Pros

For someone new it would be good to get experience for a year with new technologies and the pay is competitive.

Cons

Layoffs appear to be a yearly thing now. Decision making is opaque and appears not thought out. Company is very top heavy. For a company of only eighty people, it is amazing how little visibility there is in other departments.

Pros

Some nice people, flexible remote options, ok pay

Cons

No clear product, frequent layoffs, shady sources for data/money, very religious and conservative, almost no diversity, evasive answers regarding what the various companies do and who is funding what. Workaholic expectations.

Gloo Response

We appreciate the time you took to share your feedback. Feedback is oxygen, even if it is sometimes hard to hear. Gloo is a unique place that has seen a lot of growth and change which can sometimes be confusing and uncomfortable. We are optimistic about the future with more stability and product focus. Gloo is committed to furthering trust by pursuing the highest standards of data privacy, security, and trust. We are open about our data sources and pride ourselves on being on the cutting edge of data privacy. In fact, you may know that we recently de-identified third party data in alignment with our business objectives. Additionally, we have been and continue to be open about our investors and the leadership of our board, much of which can be found on the website. Finally, while it’s true that our recent focus on the faith vertical has attracted many people of faith to Gloo, it is simply one element of our internal diversity. We believe the best way to develop products that ‘cross the chasm’ is to focus on a niche market segment. While we believe these use cases will prove scaleable into other verticals, focus is a key to our product and go to market strategy in this season. We continue to pursue diversity at all levels of the organization through our hiring practices and development opportunities. There is a lot of work still to do but we are dedicated to progress.

Recurring, large-scale layoffs

Pros

You will work with some of the most talented, intelligent, and kind people. Great pay and great HQs. They fly you out 3x a year.

Cons

Recurring, large-scale layoffs. I read these reviews and thought, surely it was something Gloo has learned from the past. I gave them the benefit of the doubt thinking it was just because of COVID-19, but I was wrong. They over promised opportunity, growth, and a sense of protection as they view you as "family", but the way they laid off everyone was brutal, unsettling, and very impersonal. Again, they managed to lay off tons of people of color and woman. So, this is a very male dominant space. In my interview, I brought up these layoffs and was promised it would not happen again. I was wrong. Overall, I would not trust this company. My sincere advice to anyone considering a position at Gloo is accepting the position with the knowledge that no matter how many years you put into the company, that will not matter in the end. Scott Beck does not inform anyone of these irrational decisions so your managers and supervisors are just as surprised as you are when you are let go. Your title also can change without you even having a say. People don’t want to speak out because people don’t want to bite the hands that feed them. Money can unfortunately be very persuasive for people to turn their heads and continue to speak highly of the company.

Pros

Decent Pay & Benefits, truly on a good mission that is unfortunately muddied by a click of original players.

Cons

Leadership (who have only ever worked at Gloo) lacks the experience required to run a mature technology organization, which creates constant strategic shifts and unclear priorities. Internal politics often outweigh sound product and engineering decisions, making it difficult for teams to execute effectively. Many talented people work there, but the leadership structure and culture ultimately hold them back.

Not a good experience

Pros

Smart coworkers and good pay. I think the pay is the primary reason people join the company. Nice offices

Cons

Tendency to hire too many people before finding anything near product market, then reacting to the lack of success in the market by laying a lot of people off and starting the cycle anew. Had a really terrible executive who liked to talk about his time at google a lot. He was clearly very political and contributed to what was becoming a poisonous work environment. Thankfully the word on the street is that he has been removed from power. The ceo knows how to scale existing business models but is clueless when it comes to building technology. This issue is exacerbated by his seeming unwillingness to take any advice or recognize his shortcomings. Company does not seem interested in innovating and is hyper focused on serving churches. When interviewing you will likely hear lip service about building solutions for the recovery/rehab space as well, but this is misleading and disingenuous in my opinion.

Jobseekers: Beware

Pros

There are genuinely kind and lovely people at this company. While you work there, the pay is solid and the perks aren’t bad. But they do come at a cost.

Cons

Gloo does layoffs like clockwork, about every 120 days. There is no rhyme or reason to why various people get let go (I’ve seen top performers get let go). I understand layoffs can be necessary from time to time, but I don’t see a need for a quarterly layoff at any corporation. General advice to any applicant: tread lightly and take all the warnings of regular layoffs seriously. I did not and ended up with the laid off masses.

You will be Laid off

Pros

-decent pay -Good benefits (though they stated to get scaled back)

Cons

You'll be laid off. It's part of this company's business plan. Lay offs happen AT LEAST once a year, sometimes EVERY QUARTER! Unless you're part of the VERY SMALL group who successfully plays political games and ingratiates yourself to the CEO, you will eventually be part of a RIF and your role will be "eliminated in a cost saving measure." This is true for entry-level roles and C-suite roles. Be warned.

Pros

Company is committed to its purpose and invests in extremely smart and talented people. We actually like working together and value collaboration where all opinions matter. Competitive pay and great benefits. Intentional about developing and inspiring our employees.

Cons

All mid-stage start-ups have growing pains, Gloo is no different, but nothing here can't be overcome.

Pros

- Decent pay - Flexibility in working remotely - Good snacks

Cons

- Company claims to be about "human flourishing," but it is more interested in the flourishing of the Christian celebrities and business leaders with whom they're associated - Company claims to "serve those who serve," but leadership regularly is interested in serving their own interests. Leaders in my division wouldn't speak to me or even make eye contact unless they needed something. Very self-serving. - Be prepared for chaos. Constant restructuring and internal passive aggressive fighting between teams. Constant layoffs. - Claims to be serving churches, but mainly only churches that fit their evangelical, nondenominational, megachurch definition. - Leadership will use Christian language but are there to inflate their own ego. - Not only hypocritically un-Christlike, but also unprofessional. Layoffs are constant, yet handled very poorly. - Poor culture across the company. May be alright in individual teams, but poor communication and collaboration.
