Think twice about applying

Pros

Some good few people that make it worth staying

Cons

1. Management is extremely toxic and expect you to complete tasks without communicating to you. This mis-communication between managers and juniors is also very common and causes huge issues but is never sorted out. Management have no training or experience so when they are faced with problems nothing is done to solve or help the issue presented. 2. Extremely underpaid compared to other insurance companies and work load is HIGH. Expected to start early and finish late as part of CFC ‘norm’. There is a huge pay gap between individuals doing the same job with the same experience just depends on whether management believe your face and GENDER fits. 3. Over the last year higher management has changed a lot and not for the best. A lot of benefits have been scrapped and CFC culture is low. Not ‘work hard play hard’ as they promote it, it is more work hard and that’s it. 4. Promotions aren’t based on what you have achieved it’s how long you’ve been there, so is a waiting game on who leaves for you to then get your chance.

Thank you for sharing this. We are sorry to hear that your experience at CFC did not feel as positive as we would hope. Hearing different perspectives is important to us. CFC has been growing quickly and much of the change people have felt is linked to that growth. With more people and bigger teams, the way we work has had to shift, and we know that this has not always felt as clear or as joined up as it should. The points you raised around communication, workload and decision making have come up in conversations with colleagues too, and they are areas we are actively improving. Over the past year we have been working hard on giving colleagues clearer information, more reliable communication and improved support as the company grows. We are also strengthening onboarding, leadership development and wellbeing so that people have more guidance and feel better supported from the start. While your experience did not reflect the culture we want people to feel here, we appreciate you taking the time to share it. Our aim is to build an environment where people feel supported, able to grow and proud of the work they do. If you would be open to it, we would welcome a chance to understand a little more about your experience. You can reach us in confidence at hr@cfc.com. Thank you again for sharing your perspective.

Pros

Great people, opportunity for travel and generally fun culture

Cons

When I joined CFC I was very much sold on their M.O of work hard and play hard however in recent years the latter part of that culture has faded and there is a lot of working hard without the benefits. We’re constantly told how successful the company is achieving $1bn in GWP and how we’re growing exponentially and opening offices around the world but that success doesn’t trickle down to employees below management level, salaries are way below market level, talking about a good 10k or more below and there is no transparency on salary bandings. Promotion review and salary is awful, it’s left to the last minute around March time and they have now scrapped opportunity for promotion in August so it’s very much dependent on what time of the year you join and it doesn't look to change anytime soon. The salary/promotion review is not a review or a discussion, management just tells you what minimal salary increase you’re getting and if you push back they just come back after a week and say upper management won’t increase further. The icing on the cake is that they split the bonus into two so if you decide to leave the company you don’t get the other half of your bonus which you worked hard for. What a business model, ey! The same with promotions you’re basically told whether you have got it or not without any rhyme or reasoning. Feels like a revolving door especially when it comes to more junior employees. A lot of people have left and they have lost a lot of talent to competitors who are willing to train and pay employees better. Many people have tried to bargain and push back especially in terms of salary but have been met with nothing and let me tell you there’s nothing more sobering then being told “If you’re not happy then you can always leave” by someone with 3 Cartier bracelets earning 4x your salary when you’re struggling to afford rent, groceries and transport as a 20 something working in the city. There was recent controversy with “The culture” and we’ve been forced to do a number of culture surveys and days expressing how we feel. A lot of people complained about salary, benefits and micromanagement and it will be interesting if there is actionable change or if it was all just a tickbox exercise to make the company look good to regulators and other insurers. Not in all teams but in some depending on your manager there is an issue of micromanagement, it can feel like school sometimes where you’re not trusted to get work done and forced to explain why you’re working from home. We’re all adults and post Covid we should be trusted to work from home. March is just around the corner so I really hope things to change for the better. CFC has so much potential, great people and great talent but they are forgetting the core which is their employees. Leave all the bells and whistles and focus on what people really care about - Remuneration and progression

Thank you for posting your review and sharing feedback on working at CFC. Over the last year, we ran two culture and engagement surveys because we want to understand what matters to our people. The surveys showed us that there are many things we do brilliantly here which are extremely proud of and will continue to celebrate. And of course, highlighted areas for improvement, some of which are in line with your feedback. Our engagement score is higher than the industry average, and our overall turnover in 2024 was down on the year before, however we are committed to continuous improvement so that CFC remains a great place to work. We understand your frustration regarding compensation and are committed to providing more guidance and enhancing our processes. Rest assured we are running 2 promotion cycles a year, and we’ve been working with people leaders to make eligibility criteria clearer for everyone. We would also welcome an opportunity confidentially to discuss your feedback in more detail. Please feel free to contact Karen Poulton in HR via hr@cfc.com

Pros

Working alongside some of the most innovative people in the industry in a fast paced working environment. The opportunity to work on emerging risks, and be a thought leader in that in that industry is inspiring and whilst there are stressful days, there are certainly no boring days!

Cons

Whilst the employee benefits are by no means poor, I do think that they could be improved.

Pros

- Good bonus but low salary. - Private health - 25 days holiday + bank holidays and emails are covered when you're off so you don't have lots of work when you come back.

Cons

- No mid year promotions, depending on the date you join you could end up waiting a long time extra. - Bonus is split across two payments 6 months apart, you don't get the second half if you hand in your notice - increasing amounts of corporate HR style training/workshops - poor benefits - Not able to get shares anymore - Low bonus for completing CII certificate, diploma, etc... - Can be very busy at times
