Pros

Fast paced with lots to do. Everyone is pushed to the fullest at Apigee.  But that's the fun part. If you're willing to be flexible and actively seek out the context for decisions that are being made, you can have a real impact on the business and on customers. Wickedly smart and passionate people. While every company says customers are #1, at most places I've worked it's pretty empty words. Focus on customer success is real at Apigee.

Cons

The challenges of a growing company are not for everyone, things change quickly and it requires you to adjust and adapt on a dime. Backbone and resourcefulness a must. You have to infer and seek out the context.

Pros

Customers - fascinating variety of smart ambitious people looking to expand and grow into the digital economy. Technology - API management on steroids. Colleagues - smart ambitious motivated people eveywhere ... and their energy is contagious.

Cons

Cons come from your outlook on life. If you believe that autonomy, sphere of responsibility and power over your own influence are valuable assets in a job, then there are no Cons in Apigee. If you need traditional trappings of corporate inertia like hierarchies, titles, 1:2:1's and peer reviews, then Apigee will be a mine-field of Cons for you, and you should stay away.

Pros

Of course, Apigee has great perks like flexible schedules/remote working, free lunches, happy hours, onsite fitness classes and lots of other general wellness activities. Those are fantastic benefits, but also are things that you can find at lots of other companies. 3 things that make Apigee truly different and an amazingly unique and rewarding place to work: 1) A culture that is open, honest and direct, and that encourages you to be yourself — Not only does this bring out the best in the company, it is incredibly liberating and satisfying individually. Rather than worry about how you “position things”, “get buy in” or any other political doublespeak, we approach things internally and with our Customers in a very direct and transparent way. Things are just easier that way. 2) Outside-in thinking — Apigee recognizes and rewards individual accomplishments, but everything is done with the Customer in mind. This creates great clarity and a tremendous sense of teamwork as the company is 100% focused on making our Customers successful. There is never any confusion about that. 3) Constantly looking to do things better AND differently — We challenge ourselves every day to do things not just better, but differently and in a more digital way. This brings out the best in people.

Cons

You must be very self motivated and self-directed. We expect that employees will seek out context and identify ways to have impact within their teams but also across the company. If you are someone looking for a highly structured environment and/or someone that requires lots of day-to-day direction and hand holding, You will quickly feel lost at Apigee. You must be self aware and check your ego at the door. It’s the only place I’ve ever worked at where I can have days that I’ve felt incredibly productive yet I’m still feeling like I fell further behind. No job is too small regardless of what your career experience has been, so get ready to get your hands dirty — there is never a shortage of tough and interesting problems to solve, but fortunately we are surrounded by lots of smart and thoughtful people to help.

I am humbled by and grateful for this review. I am so pleased that we are creating an environment that has clearly resonated with our colleague in Customer Support. The poster's advice is to "keep doing what you are doing". My promise is that we'll try to improve upon what we're doing. Together. Thank you!!!

Pros

Smart people, market leader, work with fantastic customers who have an urgent need for Apigee's solutions. Compensation is fair and the perks are very good. Managerless culture lets you make your mark without worrying about the political angle.

Cons

You must be a self starter, have the understanding of what it takes to get the job done or you will be quickly lost.

Pros

Good product, good customer base, very smart thought leadership

Cons

High turnover with what appears to be of no concern from management (arrogance). Sales leadership attitude- if you don't like it, get out! Territories are not clearly defined within each region- new reps beware, you may be told you have a region however, other reps have already cherry picked accounts within that region and you get the remainder..

Pros

-Good compensation. -Great benefits. Medical insurance is free ( very small copays this year on ). -Catered meals. -Flexible working hours -Some ( few ) smart people. -Good chance to learn some new tech and AWS.

Cons

-Very top-heavy. Too many managers/directors/VPs - There are about 15 people doing product management for such a small firm. Too many directors in Insights ( when the product barely makes 2 million in revenue ). This is not an engineering driven firm. -Tons of bureaucracy. The CTO is very smart but is not allowed to provide direction. Very few technical managers who have the chops. Most of the managers are there to monitor scrum meetings and mumble on customer calls. -Devops is fearful of deploying anything new in production. There are lots of meetings to discuss new frameworks but very little sees the light of day because devops vetoes most new stuff. -Lots of developer churn. This is why you keep seeing job postings on Linkedin. -Massive equity dilution. Expect a high reverse stock-split at the IPO. If you have not seen the S-1 filing, you should. Only managers and above stand to make even a few 100k. The rest of the rank and file will not see much.

I must admit that it always astounds me when a current employee says "Nothing great. Better places in the valley." I'm sure that people are left wondering the same thing I am. If this place is not great, why are you a current employee? The "con" about management layers is hard to understand in a company with no titles or levels. Perhaps that more a self-imposed hierarchy than real? And the words about whether we are or are not "engineering driven" is challenging in that I'm not sure that the goal is to be engineering driven. We are customer driven. I'm glad that you've mentioned and noticed the postings on Linked In. Yes, as a GROWING firm, we are hiring awesome people - including Engineers! Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
