Pros

The team is comprised wholly of academics, which on occasion made for good lunch time discussions.

Cons

Most people here are on their first job out of university. While there is nothing wrong with this, it does not make for an environment in which to hone professional acumen. Unsurprisingly this also means there is little focus on career progression, as most on the team have never gone through this process in another company or business outside of university. Lastly, there is one other woman on the team so if you're hoping for more representation, this may not be for you.

Echobox Response

Thank you for your feedback. It is not true that our employees are hired straight out of university. Most of us have varying levels of experience in relevant fields before joining Echobox. In comparison to other younger companies, we conduct ourselves very professionally, which is why we've been so successful at growing our business and acquiring leading enterprise clients globally. We recognise that gender diversity is an industry-wide problem within the tech sphere and we're doing our best to build a diverse team. In fact, out of our last 5 hires, 3 were women.

Pros

- Flexible working opportunity - Company lunch, snacks, drinks, etc.

Cons

- Repetitive work. The tasks are repetitive and meaningless. Performance purely based on luck. Many talented employees with prestigious degree are left doing meaningless job that can be done with anyone with basic computer skills. - Inexperienced management. The management level always tries to micromanage and is never transparent about decision making process. - High turnover rate. The recruitment ads make a wrong impression about the position, and the employees quickly found out the reality and therefore wish to leave. The management level won't even recognize an employee leaving. Once the notice is given, the employee is left with very cold attitude. - Some current employees and past employees left very genuine and truthful reviews, but the company reported and labeled them as "a bad leaver". - Poor team structure. In stead of actually make structural changes that would benefit the company, they simply move people around to teams they don't want. Even though it was communicated during the interview that employee will have opportunity to move to teams they desire, but the speed of creating new and meaningful positions is not catching up with the speed of hiring new people. - The products are not as powerful as claimed. The company uses a very generous definition of AI, while the actual products are not as intelligent as advertised. Customers are locked with a contract that is at least one year long. - Many features of the products cannot support all the languages, but the sales are told to say that Echobox supports all languages, which is only partially true. If you are trying to sell to a region of another language, probably develop your product so that it can meet the expectations of your customers. Instead, they hired so many people with very specific language skills to do outreach to prospects, but the products' features don't even support the language! Don't understand the logic behind that. - Gossip culture in the company. Most conversations between co-workers are not about being friendly, getting to know one another, or work. They are always purely for gossiping purposes. Colleagues would even be interested in gossip about another person in the company who they never even talked to, which is unprofessional and disrespectful.

Pros

Colleagues are very hard working and great to work with

Cons

- The management group are incredibly inexperienced. For most of them it's their first or second job and none of them have taken the time to do management training before assuming the responsibility of an almost 100 person company. - At Echobox it was normal to bend the truth significantly, we ended up with a number of upset customers who were misled by our marketing or sales staff under the guidance of our CEO. - There is a growing number of perfectly reasonable employees at echobox who have left incredibly disgruntled. - We have to sign 100 different NDAs at Echobox, they are overly paranoid about "their ideas" leaving the company. There are lots of "need to know basis" projects at echobox - no one knows whats going on and it makes communication a massive time sink. - Echobox regularly turns threatening you with a lawsuit when they dont get their way. - Salaries are super low compared to the industry standard - People dissapear without any proper explanation from managers. It makes for a really uncomfortable atmosphere. - The CEO is too involved with the day to day of the employees. - Management style at Echobox is to micro-manage and oversee all work produced by sub-ordinates. Quite boring to work in this kind of environment. - The social side of Echobox could be vastly improved - Absolutely 0 provisions or investment in people, mental health etc. Many similarities with behaviours described in "Bad Blood" by John Carreyrou
