Pros

Having recently joined Compass, all I can say about the company, its mission, and the people in it is ..... "simply amazing". Compass is a unicorn. It is that rare company that combines passion, focus, execution, vision, and has a heart and a soul. It values its agents and employees, putting them at the center of what it does. It innovates relentlessly, looking to build solutions that matter. It services its agents with passion, ensuring their success. And, the company consistently looks to get better. It is fast moving, willing to take risks, and willing to learn. The company that does all of this will win. That company is Compass. Every market has its dominant player and winner. Compass will win because it leads with vision, passion, empathy, and has the resourcing, focus, and commitment to change the industry.

Cons

The only con is also a pro. The company is not satisfied with good. It wants great. Being great isn't easy, so if you prefer settling, this isn't your place.

The Fyre Festival of "Technology" Companies

Pros

Some really great people, fully covered medical and dental, lunch, snacks, beautiful HQ

Cons

Zero alignment between leaders, no direction in terms of strategy, terrible review process which left people with no raises or promotions. No ability for ownership, growth or development, yet they expect you to work over the weekend. The CEO is a control freak and caters entirely to agents wants and needs with zero regard for the rest of the employee base. The values are just words used as a crutch to justify a bad decision. They so desperately want to be a technology company by the technology is sub par, which completely contradicts how they pitch the business. Their only redeeming quality is the beautiful and sophisticated advertising from the marketing team which again is catering to attracting agents. Their mission is to help everyone find their place in the world which sounds great except all listings are for luxury properties. It's very smoke and mirrors. They care more about how they appear on the outside than what's actually going on inside, which I can tell you first hand is sheer turmoil.

Pros

One thing they do do a good job of is attracting amazing talent. You will likely be working amongst some of the smartest people you've ever met. It's too bad that they don't treat these people well.

Cons

There is a complete lack of transparency - major leaders in the company disappear without a trace with no communication to anyone. Those that finally take a stand and quit are painted in a negative light. They do not care about creating a good, healthy company - only about creating one that gets a high valuation for their next round of funding. Everyone comes on believing they are part of something special, and then quickly realizes that they are just a cog in the wheel. No one has time to mentor you or care about your future aspirations; expect a job, not a career. As far as startups go, they try very hard not to be perceived as one (see fancy office and fancy titles). However, they still underpay many of its employees and the typical startup problems still exist, such as lack of structure and guidance. Additionally they approach the business as if it were a corporate bank, as many of the leaders are from the world of finance. If you are a creative or have a background that does not include a consultant firm or Harvard Business School, you are considered a "B" player.
