As an Engineering Manager, you will lead high-performing engineering teams while remaining hands-on in shaping technical direction and delivering impactful solutions. Based in our Auckland innovation hub, you’ll play a critical role in evolving key, high-volume areas of our flagship veterinary SaaS platform, helping improve the daily experience of veterinary professionals around the world.
The Veterinary Software division is on a mission to build the first vertical SaaS platform for Animal Health. From our global Software Centre of Excellence in Auckland, we design, build, and operate a portfolio of cloud-native platforms that support veterinary practices at scale.
You will be at the forefront of embedding AI into clinical workflows, reducing administrative burden and enabling veterinarians to focus more on patient care.
You lead, mentor, and develop high-performing, cross-functional engineering squads delivering end-to-end value
You provide technical leadership across multiple teams, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with architectural standards
You partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leaders to align delivery with product and technology strategy
You contribute to technical direction through design reviews, prototyping, and hands-on problem solving
You own and deliver critical product experiences that help veterinary practices streamline and grow their businesses
You ensure solutions meet reliability, performance, and scalability expectations of enterprise customers
You guide the evolution of systems toward domain-oriented architectures and improved operational efficiency
You enable the adoption of AI and automation to reduce manual effort and drive measurable customer value
You promote and uphold best practices, including rapid feedback cycles, automated testing, and maintainable codebases
You foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement within your teams
You explore and apply modern engineering approaches, including emerging AI-assisted and agentic development practices
This role is central to delivering IDEXX’s vision of transforming animal health through technology. By leading teams that build scalable, intelligent software solutions, you will directly impact veterinary practices globally—improving efficiency, reducing administrative workload, and enhancing care outcomes. Your leadership will help shape how AI is meaningfully embedded into real-world clinical workflows.
Proven experience as an Engineering Manager in a modern software environment
Strong ability to lead, influence, and align technical teams through both leadership and technical credibility
Demonstrated success improving engineering culture, delivery practices, and team engagement
Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and modern design principles
Working knowledge of modern web and backend technologies (e.g. React, Go, TypeScript, .NET, Ruby, Java)
Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid models)
Nice to have:
Experience in a scaled SaaS environment
Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automation
Exposure to AI-enabled development tools and workflows
