Why this role matters
Continuous improvement isn't a project at Douglas - it's how we deliver better healthcare to more people. As our Continuous Improvement Programme Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in transforming the way our manufacturing operation performs by embedding Lean thinking into everyday work across our manufacturing plant.
Working closely with leaders and cross-functional teams, you'll translate our Lean strategy into measurable improvements that enhance quality, increase efficiency, reduce waste, and build lasting capability. Your success won't just be measured by the projects you deliver, but by the culture of continuous improvement you help create across the business.
What you'll do
- Lead the deployment of Lean initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity across our manufacturing operations.
- Manage the continuous improvement project pipeline, ensuring initiatives are prioritised and aligned with business objectives.
- Facilitate Kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping, A3 problem solving, Root Cause Analysis, and DMAIC workshops to solve complex operational challenges.
- Analyse operational data to identify improvement opportunities and measure the impact of Lean initiatives.
- Track and validate business benefits including efficiency gains, yield improvements, OEE, lead time reductions, and cost savings.
- Coach leaders and frontline teams in Lean methodologies, standard work, and structured problem-solving to build sustainable capability.
- Support quality and GMP improvements by driving Right First Time performance and strengthening compliant ways of working.
- Contribute to automation, digital transformation, capital projects, and Value Improvement Programme governance through practical process improvement expertise.
- Influence and lead cross-functional teams to embed continuous improvement into everyday operations and sustain long-term results.
What you'll bring
- Minimum of 5 years delivering measurable continuous improvement outcomes within a manufacturing environment.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (eg Engineering, Science, Business) and/or equivalent work experience.
- Strong expertise in Lean methodologies, waste elimination, flow improvement, and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional improvement projects and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
- Ability to coach, train, and develop Lean capability across teams and leaders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational data and translate insights into action.
- Experience working within regulated manufacturing environments (pharmaceutical, food, medical device, or similar) would be highly regarded.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent is desirable.
- A collaborative approach, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for continuous improvement.
