What is the salary like at 829 Studios?

      829 Studios reviews

Definitely one of the worst big agencies I've worked with

      E-commerce specialist
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - The pay is decent - Fully remote

      Cons

      - Extensive, pointless interview process: You'll have to go through 3 pointless interviews. It doesn't take that long to decide if someone is qualified for the role especially given the work is simple work that anyone with internet access can learn. - Extremely low quality clients: Maybe if you're starting off in marketing this is fine, but anyone who has worked in marketing knows that taking money from every single company that gives you money for marketing services is an extremely bad idea. With 829 I've had to work with clients that didn't have a single clue what was going on, clients that didn't even know what services they were getting, and also the frequent client with an extremely tiny budget an unrealistic expectations. These things are all fine, but blaming your workers for not being able to figure out a way for a company with a $1000 budget to make $100,000 is insane, and the fact that 829 picks up clients like these says a lot about them. - Pointless training: 829 prides itself on this worthless online portal with worthless outdated training modules called Trainual. I'm almost sure this was created due to the Glassdoor reviews saying they didn't have any training at all for new hires, but this is DEFINITELY not a good solution. It's essentially just a poor mans version of Google that doesn't get updated, and as you can predict, once you get into the actual job 90% of the things there won't really help you that much. - Poor management: In my entire time of working at 829 I could probably count on my hands the amount of times I spoke to my supervisor. It honestly even seemed like it wasn't just the clients that didn't know what was going on, but also the team didn't have a slight clue what was going on. So many accounts I've been thrown that I had no idea what was going on, when I asked the team leads they didn't know either, and of course my supervisor wasn't anywhere to be found. Funny enough we also had a client that nobody knew what their product or service was until after the first month or two of signing them, I truly wonder who's singing these clients on without this information, and why are they so desperate to sign as many clients as possible. Clearly they have so many that the managers can't even be hands-on on accounts they're in charge of anymore, so maybe it's time to slow down and stop focusing on the fastest growing company awards. - Fake nice team: One thing I've noticed about 829 is they're really great at being a fake nice company where everyone fakes being friendly and happy to work with you, but behind the scenes they will be quick to tell everyone how much they dislike you or your work. I would have full 1 on 1 meetings with team members and I would get the biggest smile and great feedback, and then suddenly an hour later I would hear from someone else on the team that the same person left complaints that we could have just spoken about in the 1 on 1, but instead they'd rather make me look bad in order to get me off the team. If you want people to do better then learn how to be an adult and have a conversation with them. They also give the long scripted speech about how they're so nice and understanding of all kinds of people, but then they'll yell at you for not having a webcam on or wearing a jacket/hoodie when you're freezing. So much for being understanding. I also wasn't a big fan of the 14 days of PTO per calendar year, especially given the fact that you don't get it until the first of the year. Coming from other agencies, the benefits here were definitely the worst, and knowing you're going to be overworked, thrown a huge amount of clients for a small amount of money while a company makes millions it definitely feels disrespectful how little they give their workers. Too many red flags, run while you can.

Smart, kind people trapped in a disorganized infrastructure built on burnout

      Anonymous employee
      Former employee
      Boston, MA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Coworkers are generally very smart, friendly, kind people - Being able to work from home

      Cons

      - Structure of the company is disorganized - Employees are unclear of where their roles start and end, with managers, account managers, and operators all doing much of the same things but not making the same money. - Salaries are below market rates and the average percentage of raises is pretty much a cost of living increase. - There is no method or structure to how things are done, leaving everyone scrambling, realizing they've either wasted time doing too much or haven't done enough, and panicking. - Extreme disconnect between the sales process and the client work. Client expectations are set very high and they are given big promises that aren't conveyed to the teams working for them, which inevitably sets everyone up for failure and puts teams at a position of trying to convince clients not to bail. - Sales team keeps trying to bring in new clients without respect for the resources available, leaving teams juggling way too many accounts and not being able to give them proper attention - Employees are overburdened and regularly express overwhelm and burnout, some suffering to the point of mental and physical illness - General sense that nobody feels like they have a grasp on what they're supposed to do but everyone is also afraid to say anything. - Employee turnover is high

Worst place to work. "100 Person Start Up" In Interview Should Have Been a Red Flag

      Account manager
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      Good benefits. Interesting client portfolios.

      Cons

Low salaries, limited PTO/flexibility, overtime everyday. They completely overwork their employees, basing availability on # of accounts not size or scope. This makes the team as a whole awful to work with, since many operators spent more time complaining about tasks and workload than actually working. "Brattiest" workplace by a landslide. Tons of processes take way too long and are unnecessary. Sales team is a mess, pitching things that make no sense and each account had to have contract changes of scope applied to it since the sales team just signs what they can. Not collaborative or cohesive.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad you found value in our benefits and the interesting client work. Our client portfolio continues to be a point of pride for us. Unlike many agencies that rely heavily on one or two large accounts, we’ve intentionally built a diversified client base. This creates a more stable, dynamic environment and a safer experience for our team. While we’ve grown to over 250 employees, we remain committed to fostering a culture where individuals are empowered to think creatively, take initiative, and help shape the way we work. We’re process-driven and structured, but we also value adaptability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. To clarify, our time-off and benefits package is competitive and thoughtfully designed. PTO starts at approximately three weeks, with an additional day earned each year of service. We offer 12 company holidays and a minimum of five sick days annually. We also close at 12:30 p.m. on Summer Fridays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. We offer paid parental leave to support growing families, and provide comprehensive, affordable benefits along with opportunities for both personal and professional growth. We recognize that agency life can be fast-paced, and we’re always working to ensure workloads are manageable and teams feel supported. Your feedback is appreciated and helps guide our efforts. We wish you the best in your next role.

Poor Work-Life Balance and Unfair Expectations

      Senior project manager
      Former employee
      Boston, MA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Pay is reasonable and Summer Fridays were ok.

      Cons

The work-life balance can be challenging in this environment, particularly for those with family or other responsibilities outside of work. The workload tends to be unpredictable compared to previous roles, even in positions with higher pay. There may be times when management's expectations feel unrealistic, and additional support could be beneficial. It would be helpful for the management team to adopt a more flexible approach and provide more assistance to employees to help them navigate these challenges.

Great Company that Cares about it's employees

      Email marketing specialist
      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Friendly environment, good team members, interesting clients to work with. Benifits are good, pay is slightly above average.

      Cons

Some of the clients had no business being signed, and we had to work with them anyway.

Horrible work life balance and low pay

      Designer

      Business outlook

      Pros

Remote flexibility but the constant pings and annoying coworkers will drive you crazy. Everyone is drained.

      Cons

Horrible work life balance with high turnover rate. This is a very small firm so they will expect you to do the job of an entire group with a lower than average salary. No upward mobility either.

      Chronic Burnout and Attrition

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

You get paid to work and summer fridays

      Cons

There is a huge disconnect between leadership, management, and operators. Operators are held accountable for unattainable goals made by management and leadership. Clients are accepted with impossible KPIs. Like above, if KPIs are not met, responsibility is on operators and not the ones above. Bandwidth is an afterthought. "Support" is more management keeping their eye on you in order to micromanage you. Constant churn is prevalent. You will be looked down upon for churn that is out of your control. Mandatory training and meetings that lead nowhere or not related to job demands. Wastes everyone's time. Promotions and raises below rate of inflation. Compensation decreases year over year.
