Pros

- Fulfilling work, clear how you fit in to the bigger picture - 2-way feedback culture, management take your ideas into account

Cons

- Poor communication from management on long-term company direction, with significant deviations happening every couple of quarters - Uncertain job stability in many roles relating to non-core-product activities, with multiple waves of layoffs happening in the last year and a half alone

Hello! Thank you for leaving us a review and it’s great to know that you find purpose and fulfilment in your work. We also see that you appreciate our feedback culture and it can only get better, with our recent activation of quarterly performance chats documentation. :) This helps us take feedback into account and ensure alignment between our talents and their leads. We’ve always been quick to react to external market changes and demands and as you can imagine, the travel industry has been through several disruptive changes over the past few years. Due to this, we’ve had to become masters of adapting, and this hasn’t been the easiest thing for our leadership team to communicate. We however acknowledge the room for improvement and will continue to put more effort in transparently communicating the company strategy and challenges. NB: For transparency, the review mentions ‘multiple waves of layoffs…’, but only a small percentage of our workforce was directly affected by the 2022 strategy review and the other once-off layoff we had was during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pros

Trivago on Tour, where the company goes on a trip. Free fruit and nuts.

Cons

No security. People working there for over 6 years were let go and replaced with new people on limited contracts, which I didn't think was possible in Germany. Even skilled positions that those employees held for a long time are given to students and interns. But the company is losing a lot of money and it's in danger of being delisted from the stock market, so that's what they have to do.

Hello, thanks for your feedback and we appreciate your input. We understand your concerns regarding our company changes which may give an impression of insecurity. We’re really sorry if any of the changes we’ve made have negatively impacted you. Although, we’ve tried our best to put our talents’ best interests in mind when managing change but at the same time remain competitive in the industry, we know that there’s always room to improve. Thanks for your patience as we navigate these changes.

Thanks for recommending trivago as an employer. We're happy to hear that you appreciate the working culture and the people you work with :) We’re sorry if you were affected by the recent shift in strategy. As a travel-tech company, we regularly reassess our focus and adjust our strategy when needed to adapt to changes in the market. This can result in change in our company set-up and we are sorry it affected you. We aim to support our talents to the best of our ability through this process. If you ever need further support, please reach out to us.

Good from far, far from good

Pros

- Nice offices - Flexible working in terms of hours and working remotely - Friendly, casual culture among employees and generally a supportive working environment - Perks like unlimited leave, free beer, parties etc that entice younger talent - Good work life balance

Cons

Would be cautious about relocating to Germany for an opportunity at trivago, when their strategy is constantly changing and they do not necessarily have the vision and resources to sustain roles /projects for even the upcoming few months- huge lay offs done immediately after 8 months of aggressive hiring of staff from across the globe, getting them to move their family and lives to Germany. Adversity to change makes it hard to make an impact. Very slow to get things done as various stakeholders and teams working towards their own goals - little alignment within the company Too much focus on managing upward and ensuring everyone knows the good work they are doing, but not enough on the quality or quantity of the work getting done Company struggles to evolve, new projects are not given the time needed to succeed Little sensitivity from top management with layoffs - announcing they will take the entire company on a summer holiday 1 day prior to doing layoffs of multiple teams is tasteless Claim to be culturally diverse but clearly at a leadership team level that diversity is lacking

Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re very sorry if you were affected by our recent strategy review. These decisions are always difficult and are not taken lightly by our leadership team. Throughout these changes we have helped several talents find new opportunities either within or outside trivago and offered further financial support as well. Successful businesses are adaptive and constantly adjusting to changing market environments. We are not justifying what happened, but unfortunately the current market dynamics required us to change course (like several tech companies, that have had to make similar or even bigger changes over the past few months). We believe our renewed focus on our core value proposition places us in a position to work towards our long-term common goal of creating a product that users love. We realize that these changes cause disruption for those affected and want to reiterate that these decisions aren’t taken lightly. We truly wish you the best and hope you have found an amazing new opportunity. NB: For transparency, the review mentions ‘massive layoffs’, but only a small percentage of our workforce was directly affected by the recent strategy review.

Pros

Nice Kollegen, free fruit, a lot of vacation time

Cons

Fake "everything is wonderful" Instagram image, but the real problems are not fixed. Jobs are not secure, many layoffs after they hire new people with limited contracts to do the same thing. People who try to fix or tell them about problems are treated terribly. Marketing efforts are mediocre.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. trivago was built by people who believe in trust and authenticity and our external brand channels reflect this positive spirit and vibrant culture. We’re always open to feedback and encourage talents like yourself to speak up about the problems you encounter. We hope you’ll use this opportunity to share detailed feedback about these problems directly with the concerned stakeholders so that we can work together to address them. 🙂
