Not at all what they claim to be

Pros

The pay is decent Insurance was a little pricey but pretty good

Cons

BE WARNED!!!! This company is not at all what they claim to be. They market themselves as helping seniors “age in place” they are nothing more than a predatory investment purchaser preying on people in bad financial situations. These people are already in a desperate situation and this company offers well below market value and then further screws them with insanely high reductions in purchase price after inspections are followed by large amounts of prepaid rent. When it’s all said and done most people lose close to all the equity they even had in the home. There is never the recommendation that the sellers acquire they’re own agent representative. This whole practice is predatory and sad. There are very few people in the company who have ever worked in real estate and most have no clue how real estate truly works.

Pros

Working remotely was pretty much the best part of the job.

Cons

I feel stupid for actually believing their so called mission and values. They claim to be "helping" people with their sale-leaseback product and aiming to disrupt the senior living space, but that is far from what is actually happening. They are a basic run of the mill real estate investment company that is putting a positive spin on their marketing. The only thing that they actually care about is their cap rate. While working for the company, many employees including myself would feel bad for the folks that would reach out for an offer on their home because we would often times be providing them with below market offers or hitting them with giant concession amounts off of their purchase price once already under contract. It felt very bait and switch for most customers and a painful process for employees just to do one simple real estate transaction. One could argue that the company is taking advantage of people in tough situations. Processes and communication were also terrible! Some simple tasks would be required to go through so many different hands, so the process would be so long and inefficient. While other tasks must all go through one sole person and work would easily pile up on them and again be the farthest thing from efficient. It felt like they truly have no idea how to actually run a company! Things were also constantly changing, but with little to no communication, which would result in tremendous frustration in every department. And HR is only one person that is very nice, but I truly think they have no clue as to what is actually going on in the company or how employees actually feel. In short, this start up company feels lost. They act like they are selling the greatest thing since sliced bread, when in reality they are trying to reinvent the wheel. The only thing they invented was a different sales pitch, that could debatably get them in hot water one day. But I don't expect the company to last long term. To work here is simply a career detour.

A smart team with a strong mission

Pros

I've been working at Truehold for just under a year and my favorite thing has got to be the people. Everyone is incredibly smart and collaborative across departments. Because of the combination between new technology and traditional real estate, I feel like I'm learning something new everyday. The whole team across the US really wants to come together and build something great, which makes you want to go to work everyday. Work/life balance is also a huge pro. I do feel like my manager cares about my wellbeing and prioritizes my growth as well as my mental health. Compensation is fair and the benefits are really solid. No fluffy vanity perks. The healthcare options are perfect for me and the 401k matching program is ideal. I also feel really comfortable talking to HR or the exec team about what new benefits I think would be great. There's an open dialogue about it that I really like. I love that the company is mission-driven. It's the thread that ties everyone together. The senior housing sector is really underrepresented when it comes to startups. We're talking to our customers all the time, and it's exciting to know we have impact.

Cons

Truehold is a small startup so you're getting to build something from the ground-up, and that comes with challenges. I think Truehold could do a better job at catering to some of the growing pains as they come up immediately. Or at least addressing them head-on. This is definitely not a large corporate structured atmosphere. You have to be adaptable and okay with constant change.
