Pros

Working remotely was pretty much the best part of the job.

Cons

I feel stupid for actually believing their so called mission and values. They claim to be "helping" people with their sale-leaseback product and aiming to disrupt the senior living space, but that is far from what is actually happening. They are a basic run of the mill real estate investment company that is putting a positive spin on their marketing. The only thing that they actually care about is their cap rate. While working for the company, many employees including myself would feel bad for the folks that would reach out for an offer on their home because we would often times be providing them with below market offers or hitting them with giant concession amounts off of their purchase price once already under contract. It felt very bait and switch for most customers and a painful process for employees just to do one simple real estate transaction. One could argue that the company is taking advantage of people in tough situations. Processes and communication were also terrible! Some simple tasks would be required to go through so many different hands, so the process would be so long and inefficient. While other tasks must all go through one sole person and work would easily pile up on them and again be the farthest thing from efficient. It felt like they truly have no idea how to actually run a company! Things were also constantly changing, but with little to no communication, which would result in tremendous frustration in every department. And HR is only one person that is very nice, but I truly think they have no clue as to what is actually going on in the company or how employees actually feel. In short, this start up company feels lost. They act like they are selling the greatest thing since sliced bread, when in reality they are trying to reinvent the wheel. The only thing they invented was a different sales pitch, that could debatably get them in hot water one day. But I don't expect the company to last long term. To work here is simply a career detour.

Pros

Innovative business model addressing a real need for older homeowners seeking liquidity without leaving their homes. Smart and mission-driven colleagues who genuinely care about customers. Strong exposure to real estate, financial products and consultative sales. Employees have the opportunity to work with talented people and gain experience in a fast growing startup environment.

Cons

Rapid growth and challenging market conditions created frequent shifts in strategy, underwriting standards and sales expectations. As interest rates rose and the real estate market changed, qualification requirements became more restrictive, making it challenging to convert opportunities. Client mix also shifted to support those needing financial liquidity over supporting primarily seniors looking to age in place.
