Pros

Daily, free popcorn; co-workers in the Technology side are very loyal, hard working

Cons

Where to start? This is your typical "SW sweat shop", with insane amounts of micromanagement. After 15 years in SW, I have never been this dissatisfied. After 2 weeks on the job, it was evident this place was a mess; after 30 days on the job, the resumes went out. Not even 90 days later, I'm leaving! They suffer from continuous turnover / churn - most people can't/don't want to work their, and it is evident in their demeanor. 0. Benefits are lacking, especially compared to industry norms - for a family, expect to pay ~$600 / month for medical (with high co-pays / deductibles) in addition to ~$50 / month for dental 1. Expectation is 55+ hours a week; be prepared to work all night Friday (from 9:30 - 2 AM) as that is the "go-live" window, WITHOUT compensation (Provided comp time was provided and subsequently not honored). Saturday work is expected, too. Most managers work 65-70 hours / week 2. Lack of direction - priorities change hourly / daily 3. As a manager, I've had employees beg and plead with me to allow them 1 hour off, simply to make dinner for their families! 4. Organization is run by people without legitimate SW experience - mostly domain / operation experts 5. Most of the SW team is "burnt out" and disengaged 6. Expectation is that electronic time cards are filed daily, in 15 minute increments - be prepared to justify EACH AND EVERY MINUTE of your day 7. Have an opinion? Keep it to yourself - no one wants to hear it 8. Want to work? Good Luck! Your day is filled from top to bottom with useless, meaningless meetings - typical work day had 7-8 meetings, essentially discussion the same thing, over and over 9. While testing issues, it is not uncommon for a Sr. Management team to have a call with the test engineer and expect updates every 5-10 minutes. They will actually sit on a a conference call and wait for status ALL DAY! 10. No process - breeds continuous ad hoc, chaotic day-to-day activities. Current "transition" to Kanban is "a joke" - it's only in place "when needed". One team had been allowed to telecommute 2 days a week, which was in place for over 2 years; upon my resignation, the team was told this is no longer acceptable - There is a reason an operations "person" was brought into SW - because of how dysfunctional it is - unfortunately, with NO SW knowledge, this has only exacerbated their issues Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Company is failing

Pros

A paycheck. Office location is good, however right above the IRS (expect an audit). Recently remodeled workspace (wonder if this would have saved a job or two). Very diverse workplace. Primarily Indian with Pakistani influences.

Cons

No loyalty or solid direction on where they are going. The executive team knew for a year that they were losing a large client, however never let on to employees that there would be staff cuts. Then when they made the cuts they basically ambushed employees as they came in. Some of these employees had been with the company for quite some time. Over ten years in some cases. The CTO is extremely passive aggressive and tends to micromanage. Their project management team is led by and up and coming egomaniac who is definitely more concerned with getting his ticket punched, then moving on. They obviously never had a handle on what losing one client would do to them financially. Any realistic projection would have to include them losing more clients and having to reduce staff even more. Business is business, however you need to have a clue as to what you are spending and plan accordingly. They have some talented people, however most of these should move on now while the market is decent. There is no way you can have job security here.

Lay-Offs Every Year

Pros

Hard working employees in the call centers yet they seldom get to go to lunch because of limited staff and high call volumes.Sometimes you do have the opportunity to work at another department but not by choice. It's always because they fired someone or they're about to fire you so you have no choice. They seldom have events and have free lunch but be lucky if you can get off the phones. You'll see the same people (favorites) at the events all day though...wonder how they're work ever gets done.

Cons

They make it seem things are going to get better but this company continues to decline for the past 3 years. I've seen lay-offs every year I've been here and they just fired 29 people. Some of these hardworking people were here 5-10 years and did more work than some "Directors" that are either handing out food that they made at their desk or running to Sam's Club to pick up party food. The executives have their favorites and it's obvious when upper management continues to get pay raises yet the hard working employees barely see any type of pay raise. They supposedly distribute quarterly "bonuses" they call profit sharing but be lucky if you see an additional $40 when it does get paid out. There are multiple platforms within each department and it makes no sense. The IT team is always working on tickets to fix major bugs and constant testing on weekends by team members that don't even work in IT but do the work but don't get compensated.
