Cons

Working at Strandbags for a year has been an incredibly disheartening experience, one I wish I could erase from my work history. I've come to deeply regret investing so much time and effort into a workplace that exudes toxicity and perpetuates a culture of misery. It's disheartening to experience such a lack of managerial competence, particularly at the regional level. The regional seems to lack any semblance of effective management skills, which makes one question their suitability for the role. Their approach to management is transactional and hierarchical, devoid of the essential qualities of respect and professionalism. What's most concerning is the complete absence of transparent communication and professionalism. This manager indulges in talking behind employees' backs rather than addressing concerns directly, demonstrating a severe lack of maturity and leadership. Their tone is consistently undermining and disrespectful, fostering an environment of negativity and demotivation among the workforce. The regional sets unrealistic store expectations without providing adequate guidance or training to meet these demands. Their visits only seem to contribute to stress and anxiety among employees, rather than offering constructive feedback or assistance. It's clear that their focus is on unrealistic goals without any support or effort to help the team achieve them. The store managers, while often caught in the middle, struggle under the weight of these unrealistic expectations imposed by the regional manager. They are forced to relay these unattainable goals to sales associates, creating an atmosphere of constant stress and pressure. Looking back, it's evident that sticking around was a mistake. If I could advise my past self, leaving this toxic workplace much earlier would have been a clear and beneficial choice. To those considering working here, I strongly advise against it. Having worked in various retail stores, I can confidently say that this has been the worst experience by far. The toxic atmosphere and management issues overshadow any pros of working there.

Pros

Fun work environment and made great friends! Good discounts at 40% for staff

Cons

I think they don’t know exactly what casual means beacause I was hired as a casual sales assistant but I was also a keyholder, had set times and shifts every week, and needed to find my own cover all the time when I had to take a sick day, AND if someone needed a key they’d call me to drive in on my day off to give them the key which wasn’t in my job description at all

Pros

Some of the employees are cool. You can actually be friends with them long term.

Cons

-pays minimum wage but expects employees to do a lot of jobs. - pressures employees to achieve unrealistic personal targets, but gives no recognition or any rewards. -Management threatens employees that they will give them fewer hours if personal target is not achieved. - expects employees who are opening the store to start 15 minutes early but don't pay them. For example, store opens at 9am and staff needs to prepare the store(tidy up, count guess, etc...) and prepare the till 15 mins prior to opening. Staff needs to clock in 9am not 8:45am. - The clock in times are in 15mins interval.
