Pros

Some very good people inside the company.

Cons

Low pay, zero benefits- no 401k, no vacation sick or floating holidays. No comp days for extra time on duty. No on site security- dangerous neighborhood- Hotel staff are told to police property as if they were professional security personnel. Many vagrants and scam artists infiltrate the premises daily. Ambiguous policies around accepting guest’s payment. When policy is followed- management reverses course and punishes following policy. Lying shady leadership who issues vendettas on associates after misleading them around policy. No support on staffing issues. High turnover of associates leaving middle management to scramble constantly. Frequent suggestion of opportunities for growth yet no actual growth opportunities. Financially faltering company with no corporate safety net. No union. Weak health insurance plan. No choice offered. Rare to no pay increases. No bonus structure for hitting marks. All glory to GM only. Everyone shares everyone’s personal business indiscriminately. Private matters are not kept confidential. Disposable undervalued hard working team members- dispensed with at a shocking pace. Guest profile is low brow, unseasoned, broke and often engaged in crime on premises. Highly unprofessional and untrustworthy as an employer. Apply elsewhere.

Pros

The actual work itself is very good. You receive strong training and mentorship, and you'll get to know the other accountants well. You have real responsibilities - you see the impact of your work on a daily basis. Very fulfilling work.....

Cons

…. until the coronavirus pandemic. As of today (3/27), with Washington's Stay At Home order in effect, Pineapple is refusing to let employees work remotely. They claim that their IT infrastructure can't handle it, but after laying off most of the company this wasn't true (a coworker had talked to IT). We even offered to rotate as a compromise, some of us working from home and some of us on site. The executives would not budge an inch. The day after Inslee put the state on lockdown, no work got done. Employees were sobbing, thinking about walking out, planning to take paid time off.... it was a nightmare. We heard an executive screaming "GET THE [profanity] OUT OF MY OFFICE" to a coworker. And still, the company refused to let anybody work from home, despite workers with high risk factor pre-existing conditions. The company literally told us that if we wanted to work from home, we would need to take paid time off. When we tried to take a personal unpaid leave of absence, we were told we would not have a job to come back to. I confronted an executive on the ethics of this policy, and after being yelled at for a few minutes, I was fired for "insubordination". During this whole crisis, the company president, Michelle Barnett, posted anti-science articles about the virus in the company's internal facebook page. I asked a coworker with high-risk pre-existing conditions if they talked to HR about working from home, they said they didn't bother because they knew the answer. I was then informed that over the last 2 years, the HR department has turned over TWICE. Also they don't have a 401k plan or HSA.

Thank you for your recent review. Pineapple Hospitality, not unlike the rest of the hospitality industry across our nation and world, finds itself in an unprecedented circumstance. In a time of ever-changing information, protocols, and varying local, state and federal initiatives, I can most assuredly share with you that there is no such thing as “"business as usual" right now. Not for Pineapple. Not for our team members. Not for those affected directly by COVID-19. With that said, hotels have been designated as an essential service. To that end, our properties are open and operational to ensure availability for the lodging needs of our country’s military, first responders, city workers, utility workers, those needing to practice social distancing from their families, etc. While we are happy to be of service to our country, and happier still to be able to maintain the employment of as many of our team members as possible right now, we understand that uncertainty and anxiety are pervasive. We understand that our team members have needs and have done our level best to balance those personal needs with those of the business. Each team member is unique and we encourage open communication. Pineapple is committed to weathering this storm. While there is no rearview mirror by which we can vet our current path to determine if one direction may be better than another, we hold true to our commitment to a holistic value system of doing the most good where it counts. Our team members are the very best part of Pineapple and we appreciate their service and dedication.

Pros

Decent pay (although no 401k)

Cons

Everyday working here (corporate office) was miserable. Management was totally absent and any marketing plans were all over the place and always only half-baked. CEO would show up several hours late to meetings only to make everyone stay until 7pm+ on a Friday because she couldn't show up on time--no respect for employee time and work/life balance. Portrayed the culture as fun, goofy, easy going, but it was anything but. CEO regularly posted politically charged anti-science articles in the employee facebook group.

They just don't get it

Pros

Met a few nice people

Cons

Management doesn't share the truth, plans change daily, one story one day, another story the next day. They have an unrealistic view of what operations can carry out but it really doesn't matter because before you try to carry out the original plans they hand you new ones the next day. Their priorities are a mess.

Awful Place to Work

Pros

- Team player mentality of many - Overall fairly friendly

Cons

- Zero flexibility to work from home, unless you're liked - Horrible benefits, must work there for months before giving any employee benefits which are terrible anyways - Zero communication regarding expectations - Zero understanding for being sick even with full documentation then using it against employees - No consistent training plan, sets employees up for failure - Violate HIPPA policy regarding other employees Overall, I was hopeful that it would be a good experience working for them, but I've never been treated worse in my life. I was fired after providing full illness documentation. When asked what documentation was needed, I was told to look through the employee handbook. I wouldn't waste your time working here. They do not value employees and that's evident by the way the treat employees and their horrible benefits.

Pros

The pay is fair compared to other hotels in the area for the cost of living in New York City. The management is flexible in terms of scheduling. In the beginning we operated as a work family. We were closely knit.

Cons

There is no 401k plan. Unfortunately there is no chance for upward mobility as they looked outward to hire for a management position. There are employees who have been there and still are but there seems no room for growth. No holiday compensation or hazard pay for working through the pandemic with dangerous conditions such as homeless men lingering around the hotel. Also was no security until WE asked for it because it started to become more treacherous just to leave work.

Thank you for review, and your direct feedback. Certainly, remaining operational through the pandemic was incredibly challenging, most especially for those of you in the hotel operations. We have learned a lot of lessons as a result. As we grow the brand, opportunities for Team Member growth, development and promotion will expand as well. Hope to see you back, as you clearly understand the service culture we are trying to achieve. - Mike, VP of HR
