Toxic co-founder

Pros

You'll have hardworking and helpful colleagues who are incredibly talented. They attempt to create a fun culture but the work culture that's propogated by the co-founder conteracts it all.

Cons

Lady founder is emotional, blows hot and cold when she responses. She does not communicate her expectations clearly and is later used against you. She creates drama and gossip amongst team members and instill fear when interacting with her. Thus everyone is constantly trying to do anything to please her and it's a be liked or be gone. Few employees stay for long and when there are dismissals, they are hidden and carefully directed to seem as if it was not a dismissal.

Chaotic and toxic environment blamed on fast paced startup culture

Pros

- If you are new and experienced, you might be paid well. - If you are able to stand your ground, you may be treated okay. - The industry is good and the company is doing well.

Cons

The founders have created an extremely unhealthy, anxiety inducing environment, and have blanketed it under the guise of being "fast-paced" and "dynamic". The truth is quite far from it. The founders are simply in over their heads and have hired too quickly with no plan. 1. The pace is not fast. Since every small decision needs to be made by the bosses, who often change their minds and rarely agree with each other, even the simplest tasks take weeks to execute. Most projects are made more complex than they need to be, and the employee's experience and judgement is never trusted. 2. You are kept in a constant state of confusion and anxiety because you have no way of knowing what is expected of you. Expectations are consistently shifting, and the blame is put on employees. People with experience recognize this easily, so they prefer hiring fresh grads and quieter young people and bully them to keep them under their thumb. 3. There is no reason to believe that the leaders of this company know what they want from doubling the team this year outside of having something to show investors. The incompetence lies with them, not those they employ. It is interesting that most strongly worded negative reviews are pillowed by a couple of positive reviews that tell the complete opposite story. At the end of the day, it is up to potential employees to discern their own experience, and I would hope that things turn out better for anyone who decides to join the team.

Pros

Colleagues are friendly and hardworking. They are talented and passionate about doing their best for their respective jobs/portfolios.

Cons

Senior Management is extremely toxic. I should have seen the red flags before joining e.g. backgrounds of the co-founders, other Glassdoor reviews They do not appreciate feedback from the ground (customers, employees, other stakeholders). They will insist that their views are correct and shut down any suggestions for improvement. They string employees along with empty promises and treat staff as dispensible arms and legs of the co-founders. HR is virtually non-existent and employees are not rewarded sufficiently for all the hard work and long hours they put in for the company. They squeeze as much out of employees before dumping them (i.e. letting go of employees with shorter notices than on the respective contracts). Also, stringing along is not limited to employees. Customers are tied into expensive contracts with archaic enterprise terms and processes even though this is supposed to be a SaaS company. There have been upset customers but senior management doesn't want to listen. Honestly, it's tough to continue when senior management prevents you from doing your job well.
