Pros

A very passionate company who care about their employees, and members - putting both at the heart of all decisions. I get to see what goes on behind the scenes and every decision is thoughtful and very well considered with all facts, risks and outcomes thoroughly discussed, with the purpose of driving the business forward, whilst ensuring that the right choices have been made for all. It only took me a few weeks to feel immensely proud working for Nottingham Building Society and after 6 months, I live and breathe our company values and very much enjoy coming to work for such a people-centric business. Our company history and current propositions are extraordinary and really show that we are member (customer) obsessed. I've never worked in a business where the CEO knows every single member of staff by name - be it at head office, or in branch - a marvellous, passionate and very hard working CEO, and a fantastic Executive team who all work well together to ensure that the right decisions are being made. The right cadence of meetings ensure that the key decision makers are well informed and know what is happening across the business, rather than being siloed with their knowledge - I often feel that this does not get enough credit from those who aren't exposed to what goes on in meetings. It really is a very collaborative Executive team. The people are a real highlight of working for NBS and our culture, values and diversity make this a great place to work. Without a doubt my favourite job that I have had, and I believe that my peers and colleagues truly care about me. I feel valued and that can be rare nowadays. Communication within NBS is very proactive, with a focus on transparency and keeping everyone clearly informed. This makes working here feel like we are all very much part of our continued story and keeps everyone on the same page.

Cons

I don't have any, as I truly believe that any items that would deemed a 'con' are actively being looked at, changed and improved on a daily basis. The change I have seen within my time with NBS has been positively superior to what I have experienced in other organisations. our Executives listen, and care.

Pros

Next month I've been with The Nottingham for ten years. Throughout my time at the company I've had great support in my development which has enabled me to learn new skills in areas of interest and progress in my career. My role and responsibilities has changed multiple times and I've always had full support from management. The company is great at hiring the right people in terms of skills and experience, as well as finding people who are able to fit nicely into the team. There's a great work life balance, holiday allowance and healthcare plan. They have and continue to invest in technology and processes.

Cons

Communication from management could be better. Things are often not fed down to team members.

Pros

I feel very supported in my role. The application process was very smooth, and the communication via email and phone were extremely efficient. The vibe around the office and team is bubbly and engaging. I love working on the Savings side of the business as its opening my eyes to all the finer details that I've never thought about before.

Cons

I have no cons to mention!

Strong purpose but issues with favoritism and communication

Pros

• Strong purpose and a member‑focused ethos. • Many colleagues are committed and care about doing the right thing. • Flexible working is generally supported. • Some teams offer interesting work and opportunities to get involved in meaningful projects.

Cons

• Visibility and opportunities often feel concentrated around a small group of individuals, which creates a perception of favouritism and bias. • Development opportunities such as conferences, external events and sector engagement are not communicated transparently or consistently across teams. • Independence of certain functions can feel blurred due to how some individuals are positioned internally and externally. • Communication around progression, recognition and expectations can be inconsistent. • Senior roles carry significant responsibility, but support and recognition don’t always match the level of accountability required. • Decision‑making can feel political at times, which affects morale.

Pros

Loyal and collaborative colleagues Great central location Strong corporate partnerships

Cons

The culture described versus the one which colleagues experience is polarised, lacking in authenticity and integrity, The People and Development team have had a turbulent time over the past few years with high attrition both voluntary and involuntary, There is minimal respect for those who do the work and disproportionate investment in leadership. The current Senior Leadership team claim to be open to feedback but the reality is, should this be less than favourable, there is blame placed and an implication that those who were open and honest are 'trouble makers' creating a lack of phycological safety. There is an absence of a clear and unified direction or purpose, patchy and inconsistent communication and closed conversations at the top with confusing and erratic messages for those in the department. Colleagues who have demonstrated dedication, resilience and gone over and above can go from being regarded as 'talent' to being seen as 'blockers' overnight creating uncertainty and anxiety for the individuals themselves and those who work alongside them. Its become extremely hierarchical with structural changes made on a whim. I am unsure if the CEO or the Board are aware of this toxic culture, there is such a disconnect between what is said versus what is experienced.
