Pros

- Employees are incredibly smart, driven, and kind - Mission is very easy to buy into

Cons

- No other way to put it: CEO would clone himself to run every team if he could. No trust in leadership, which results in lack of clear priorities and stilted growth. - Massive turnover in the past year. Entire leadership team has left. - CEO is obsessed with feeling like he won...even if this means undercutting someone's comp by a meager $2k-$3k just to feel like he got the last word in. - Fine job if you're far removed from interacting with CEO, but I'm not long on company's prospects given the above.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review. We are committed to hiring mission-driven people whose values align with ours and to building a culture where all can thrive, so welcome your feedback as part of our learning process. It’s great to read you enjoyed working with your team members and connected with our mission! Our compensation philosophy is shaped by our values and desire for a diverse, inclusive workforce, and one of the key ways to promote this is to lead with our best offer using market data. This practice ensures internal equity and that candidates of comparable skills are paid the same, regardless of their ability to negotiate. NoRedInk has faced some of the growing pains over the past year that many start-ups do, but we are proud of what we have accomplished and have been excited to see some of our early leaders and employees continue to grow through new and/or expanded opportunities. We are also excited to have further built out the leadership team with experienced executives and have plans to expand it even more. This will allow us to scale effectively and our CEO to focus his attention on the most impactful ways he can best influence our success.

Pros

The people who work for NoRedInk genuinely do care about improving education for students, and they clearly go above and beyond trying to help clients/prospects.

Cons

Have you ever gotten out of a toxic relationship and dated someone new that treats you better? That's exactly what working for NoRedInk felt like. I had no idea how bad things were until working elsewhere. It is never a good sign working for a "startup" where they consistently lay people off. At this rate, NRI will go out of business within the next 2 years. Selling in the K-12 space is incredibly challenging, and unfortunately NRI is not evolving fast enough to differentiate themselves against other AI writing platforms.

Lacks diversity

Pros

The company’s mission to improve literacy across the US is admirable. Unlimited PTO, really smart folks, flexible schedule.

Cons

Below the surface, there are cracks. A lot of time was spent ideating on straightforward solutions and projects during meetings. A quick scan of NoRedInk’s team page answers any questions you may have about diversity. They tout diversity and inclusion as important; unfortunately, it seems like an empty platitude. A good number of the districts they serve have a substantial minority population, but the decision-makers continue to miss the mark because they themselves lack diversity. Without a variety of lived experiences and perspectives, innovation is impossible. To make matters worse, the company recently laid-off quite a bit of people and restructured some of the positions they did away with. The new positions unintentionally or intentionally target a very select group of candidates ultimately weeding out minorities. Rinse, wash, repeat. If this was done unintentionally, this would have been easy to catch had they had a diverse group of folks making important decisions.
