A Lot of Pros, a Lot of Cons

Pros

People + Culture - The organization does a great job of hiring great people - smart, great experience at larger companies, fun. The company strives for a very open and transparent culture (which happens most of the time). Definitely lots of opportunity for fun (prom, ping pong, etc). Teams are very collaborative, which helps build great ideas but also hinders speed and decisions making (too many cooks in the kitchen) Work/Life Balance - work hard play hard culture with great work life balance Benefits - Company does a great job of providing a breadth of benefits to employees and always striving for more. Not crazy benefit like a tech company, but does great for its size. Salary is fairly competitive, but benefits and culture are often looked to overcome some of the salary gap vs. other Bay Area jobs

Cons

Organizational Structure - method is doing great in the marketplace and continuing to grow, but struggling a bit as it transitions from more of a start-up to more of a grown-up mid-size company. A lot of challenges with process and roles/responsibilities (decision making). Also trying to figure out how to be a marketing organization LT Involvement + Prioritization - Despite trying to empower teams to make decisions, often times the LT steps in and makes key decisions or causes churn on particular projects during the gate process; often times when LT members are not aligned and there is no clear decision maker within the LT. There is definitely still also opportunity for the LT to clearly define priorities and resource decisions; the team often feels VERY strapped yet when new opportunities arise it is often shoved in without removing projects or re-prioritizing Professional Development - Definitely a big concern across functions. Given it is a smaller and flat organization, professional development can be challenges - both from a promotions/advancement perspective as well as skill development with new opportunities. Many times you can advance to a particular level and then are pretty much stuck. Managers are also hit or miss in terms of people management and development. Culture - I have to put this on the cons too, unfortunately, due to some of the team dynamics. Often times the hyper collaborative approach and lack of clear roles/responsibilities leans to churn on projects and drama on cross-functional teams

Great Culture + People but no upward mobility

Pros

Amazing and talented people work at method. Great brand and inspiring mission based company to work for. Great benefits! The culture is pretty good with lots of fun perks and additional benefits.

Cons

There is little to no advancement opportunities. Nor is there opportunity for lateral movements. Management generally seems un-engaged in the development and career path of their people. And they sadly seek to fill many roles from outside the company vs. hiring from within. Pay is below market and bonus feels like a 50/50 shot. IT opportunities across the board (recent progress).

Not what I thought

Pros

Good benefits, 401k is good, good compnay match.

Cons

Upper management doesn’t listen to employees of lower status. When hired on the promise was to develop employees, quickly learned this was only the case if you work in San Francisco office. Doesn’t help having Directors only worried about their personal gain. Ive seen to many good employees leave because of bad management.

Pros

Great management and team. People are encouraged to be themselves. Brilliant working environment that is professional but fun at the same time. Products are amazing - environmentally friendly and no animal testing

Cons

I cannot think of any cons. It's a fast paced environment and you need to be on the ball constantly so if you want a slow job, then this company is not for you.

Not the Place for New Grads

Pros

Method offers full time employees a fairly competitive benefits package (401K matching!) and yearly bonuses based on performance. Folks around the office are friendly, and the space itself reflects the company's quirky, weird, and creative culture.

Cons

The teams at method are generally lean, and management doesn't do a great job of advocating for headcount when functions are stretched thin. People leaders generally don't spend enough time giving feedback to their direct reports. There are few opportunities for upward mobility, and no real focus on individual career growth. Plus, a lack of youth in the office

Pros

The do a good job selling the work environment just like they do a good job selling soap. It's all marketing.

Cons

The Chicago plant is a hostile discriminatory work environment. The supposed values they say are part of the culture is not intended for hourly workers. Management provides poor instructions and pits employees against each other. They are liars. If you speak up you will be fired. The management style is based on intimidation and they use various forms of retaliation to keep workers from speaking up about the working conditions.
