People leaving in flocks, toxic culture

Pros

Lovely peers from 60+ nationalities. Most people stay here because of colleagues who became friends

Cons

Where do I even start... - Everytime people meet internally for lunch or coffee breaks, nothing positive comes out of it because everyone is just so tired of the company - Next-gen software was supposed to be fully delivered by June 2018, then September 2018, December 2018, March 2019, June 2019...and so the story goes... - Big clients pissed off due to the missed deadlines and poor quality and threaten to leave the company - People leaving in a flock due to burnout. Goodbye emails from colleagues every day, but no one ever really talks about how many people left the company. Lack of transparency from HR and management about this topic (for people who want to join: THINK TWICE. Why would so many people leave the company in a year if it's really healthy?) - CEO sends emails about new logos all the time, but no one ever talks about the logos lost - So-called " customers first" is nothing but an abuse of employees time to deliver against promises that management made, which were unrealistic to begin with. Overtime not compensated because they "measure based on outcome", but the outcome targeted for you is again, unrealistic to begin with - Many incompetent people stay in the company for so long and don't know anything else outside the company, because what the company calls 'consulting' really is a joke and nothing but managing pissed off clients and escalating bugs to development - Toxic micro-managing and ad-hoc culture because people don't know what they're doing. People at the lower end of the chain end up having to put extra effort to compensate for the clueless management. Putting out fire everyday - CEO instills fear among people because of his micromanagement style, nobody knows what the CTO is doing, and Service leadership contributing to an all-time high rate of people leaving the company - HR pulled some funny tricks to dismiss people and offered a non-German speaker a 2 month severance package IN GERMAN. Dirty tricks under the table - SVP Product left, Chief AI left, and 4-5 other people in product (out of a department with only 10 people). Massive exodus everywhere - No development budget for most departments because they don't care for people - Finally there is a worker's council fighting for the oppressed workers

Pros

New Berlin office is an upgrade, but nothing special in and of itself Make friends through common suffering

Cons

As other reviews mentioned, long hours, expected to stay overtime with no additional compensation, in fact inputting more than 8 hours work a day/40 hours a week is automatically blocked on MyTime, the work hour tracking system. Poor morale, they were hiring by the dozens a year ago but recently turned around and started firing. CEO had to run propaganda sessions to do damage control and "comfort" everyone they would not be next to be fired. Christmas party was lame and the food was horrible, made me throw up. CEO Kay takes everything very personally and is a bully, he can't stay away from anything because he has NO TRUST in the employees, the micromanagement is to the detriment of all the teams in the company. Management team leaves lots of fake reviews on Glassdoor and it's getting more obvious. The one posted January 2018 by a "Senior Consultant, less than 1 year with the company" there is no Senior Consultant who joined the company in the recent 2 years who is at all happy with the state of the company, much less think it produces a "great product". That review reeks of the language used by management. The 5 star posted December 2017 by a "former Director" and mentions how he/she/it likes the new office. The move happened October 2017, no Director left the company since moving to the new office. Also watch out for the fake salaries - management likes suppressing salaries and that includes dirty tactics like placing lower-than-average numbers or outright lies on review sites like Glassdoor. The recently posted "Senior Go-To-Market Specialist: 39k-43k" is a working example of this, there is no such position within the company!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the current situation. We respect Glassdoor as an anonymous forum for people to express their concerns about the workplace and do not post fake reviews or salary information. With regard to some of your other comments, yes, working in a fast-growing venture can involve long hours from time to time, because we put our customers first and move mountains to exceed their expectations. We also realign our workforce when necessary, as you have noted, to meet changing market requirements. Our CEO, like many other visionaries, is known for his drive and passion. His energy is counterbalanced by a management team with corporate experience at McKinsey MARS, Nielsen, and SAP.

Pros

A diverse workforce and some really good people, both in Chicago and Berlin

Cons

Pedestrian Middle Management: Middle Management in Berlin is mostly comprised of former Analysts / Market Researchers who joined the company 4+ years ago, and we're promoted over the course of time. They're definitely adept at providing consulting on an insights platform but are worse than useless when it comes to running SaaS operations. It's isn't a whole lot better in Chicago either. While one or two people clearly know what they're doing, the others folks are really out of their depth. Constant State of Flux: For a company that counts F100 logos in its client portfolio, it can be shocking to see how anarchic processes are within the company - poor onboarding, lack of proper tools for collaboration, SaaS processes running more on personal relationships than any form of standardization etc. Mediocre Pay: The pay at MLS isn't the worst, but you could be making a lot more at other companies for half the hassle. Positions beneath Director aren't eligible for bonuses either. Lastly, if you have come across a recent job description from MLS, chances are you'll have read something along the lines of "be a part of a growing business / shape this company" or something like that. Reading this you'd think this is a year old startup, maybe two years old tops. This is infact a 6+ year old business that still isn't able to shake off the mentality of a fledgling company. The reviews you see on Glassdoor are reflective of that. In short, think long and hard before you join MLS. If you're stepping into the SaaS world or really need the job, then nothing this review (or other reviews) says should matter. But if you have the years under your belt in the SaaS space, you could do a lot better than MLS.
