Pros

Brilliant co-workers. The occasional chill, cool client. 100% remote work.

Cons

It took me only a couple months into my new role to feel validated in leaving Joybyte. The company’s leadership— whom I once admired, respected, and trusted— may have the perception that anyone who leaves Joybyte just wasn’t cut out for the intensity of the agency lifestyle, but this is expert level gaslighting. At first I thought the main issue was our clients, most of whom are incredibly difficult to work with (partially due to being set up for unmanageable expectations in the sales process), but it’s truly only the tip of the iceberg. The reason I was ultimately compelled to leave— aside from being paid well below the market for what this role entails, after almost two years, with 3/4 of that time having been considered one of their top performers— is the leadership team. Full stop. When you have one [REDACTED], with nearly the entire team reporting to them— someone who starts their day at 3 or 4 in the morning and doesn’t log off until 8 or 9 at night many days of the week, neglected to properly delegate and train plenty of new extremely capable managers to relieve some of their workload— it’s bound to sow seeds of stress that trickle down onto every employee, whether they want to admit it (and risk retaliation) or not. Burnout is not the result of “poor mental stamina”, as [REDACTED] loudly proclaims on his own public social media. It’s the result of poor leadership, in denial of their own burnout, and an almost cult-like insistence one needs to “buy in” to the “culture” for the greater success of the company, and by proxy, your growth. When you have [REDACTED] who is working themselves to death, even if they don’t directly say it, the unspoken expectation is *that* is the culture you need to buy into, or you will not be considered a reliable employee. The term “toxic” is overused, and losing its meaning nowadays, but I truly don’t know how else to describe what the environment devolved into. It’s not all bad, no job ever is. I met some amazing people whom I will stay in touch with and remain close friends with. I learned a ton and grew immensely— especially in my first 6-9 months when I felt much more supported and valued; like I had a path to growth. All this to say, accept a position here with caution. Take the love-bombing positive feedback in the beginning with a grain of salt. Gain the experience you need to find greener pastures.

Pros

Working with some of the small businesses we onboard is an absolute delight! You'll gain invaluable insights and exceptional agency experience, making this the perfect opportunity if you're looking to build a lasting career in marketing.

Cons

This role demands resilience and unwavering commitment. Expect to work beyond standard office hours, navigate complex office dynamics, and meet exceptionally high standards. Constructive criticism is often poorly received by leadership, and your voice may feel stifled. It’s concerning that many who have highlighted the toxic environment are often sidelined. While the initial excitement of joining this team is palpable, over time, it can feel reminiscent of high school politics. Additionally, client retention is an ongoing challenge. If you are not prepared to endure these conditions for at least a year to gain the experience, it is advisable to consider other opportunities. This company also lacks diversity.

Pros

Medical benefits, remote work, flex schedule.

Cons

To provide a comprehensive overview, I feel it's crucial to highlight a review from a former employee who stated, "all that glitters is not gold." Despite initially hoping this was an isolated incident, my own experience at Joybyte mirrored theirs precisely. The management lacks empathy and strong leadership, leading to an overworked atmosphere that permeates the entire team. The onboarding process is rushed, and the company's "open door policy" for voicing concerns quickly turns into labeling employees as "negative" for speaking up. Monthly reviews using a 1-10 rating system fail to provide meaningful feedback tailored to individual strengths. Management refuses to take accountability for communication issues, excessive workloads, and inadequate training. In the initial interview, I was assured that my client portfolio would consist of no more than 5-6 clients. However, shortly after joining, I found myself managing 8 clients, with the expectation of reaching a capacity of 10. The increase in workload was overwhelming, compounded by the unrealistic daily tasks and KPIs we were expected to meet on a weekly basis. The promises made during the interview regarding client workload quickly unraveled, leaving both myself and my some colleagues struggling to cope with unattainable expectations. Despite working long hours, (working before 8, and past 5) to meet the ever-growing demands seems impossible, leading to a toxic environment where blame is placed on employees rather than addressing systemic issues. It’s truly saddening as their are some wonderful, talented, passionate, kind hearted people who work here. I caution anyone considering a job offer here to beware of the toxic work culture.
