Pros

-work life balance. Usually get a handful of shifts from 1 shift to maybe 4 in the whole week, most shifts is usually 4-5 hours long (at least my location). Usually understanding for college students. -good for beginner retail. Although training did suck in actually helping me learn, most people in the job understand people can be new and help out until you get a handle on things. -good for younger people like teens and early 20’s. It wasn’t much of a pro for me even though I am young I prefer more mature co-workers, but as a teen looking for a first job I think that makes it a good pro. - good if you just want some extra cash or have a side job. Since you can’t expect shifts but only want some money for yourself or for holidays its helpful.

Cons

-pay rate sucks considering how little shifts. If you go strictly by shifts your given expect about $200 usually every two weeks. Major reason why many people dislike working here is considering how to have enough money to live on you need to cover others often or hope for a open shift and have a 2nd job. Which makes employees upset, most of my co-workers are exhausted and barely can have a good amount of sleep because of how bad the shifts can be. -management sucks. Most of my managers have attitudes most of the time, can play favorites for only employees who cover a lot of shifts and can be there all the time. I noticed my managers would become annoyed when helping me with my work since I wasn’t used to everything yet. Furthermore, one of my managers are never there and all they do is gossip with their favorite employees about how much it sucks and how certain employees suck. - rude and lazy co-workers. This can happen anywhere but particularly my location at least seems okay as long as you kiss up to the managers. There has been a few times at work my managers would sit and spend their time “working” just talking and ignore what needs to be done when we are doing recovery (cleaning up and folding the clothes back). Many employees leave things undone just for the next set of people to take care of it. - benefits suck. Since only part time you get no benefits, employee discount is the same discount as regular customers with a gap card. Sometimes customers get better deals than us as the employees. Never got PTO and the community service days suck. Beyond that theres no perks to working here considering everything. - too pushy on forcing things on customers. I have been told many times that I must lie to customers and make them get things even if I feel uncomfortable to force them. At least my location, it been lost sight of caring for customers and only care for their income. My managers have told me to put customers to the side or tell me to not even tell them the truth on gap cards. I really hate being a liar so I can’t pull myself to lie just to make someone waste their money or give me their email. For example one customer today was taking little long but I wanted to make sure she was happy with her purchase so I stayed patiently for her, my manager wanted me to cancel her purchase and push it to the side because she was taking to long and told me to continue with other customers. I feel at least that manager is the nicest one usually but I find that attitude for a store to be cruel, I really care about making my customers happy so I feel gap isn’t a good place because of that. If you are okay with lying and allowing the store to be a mess most of the time and act like its high school you would like it here but those are things I can’t tolerate.

Pros

Hourly rate is decent and pays weekly

Cons

Managers think they are above everyone even when they have as much potential as a goldfish in life. We are pushed to get customers to sign up for a store credit card which is one of the worst credit cards I’ve seen. Your worth at this company is dependent on how many credit cards you can get which is so dehumanizing. Horrible culture and company to work for.
