Pros

Leadership cares only about maintaining status quo and building their own fiefdoms so as long as you don't challenge that, you probably won't have to do much work. So if you like work/life balance -- and by balance, I mean barely doing any work, then it's great. Also, they espouse values of equality publicly, even if they don't abide by them in practice.

Cons

See above. Also: - There are complaints about leadership in virtually every department. - There is a TOXIC culture here that is enforced through non-transparent leadership practices, an over preoccupation with inter-office politics and leadership and management who are insecure (and may not even be strong leaders or even experts in their own subject matter) - Many people vocalized needing to start seeing a therapist in order to maintain the stress brought on by leaders who feel threatened either by evolving business landscape or internal politics or younger (and often more talented) personnel

Pros

This is truly an innovative company. Even though at times it feels like the standardization of Mall America, you know for certain that you are part of a movement and generation that is shaping the world. The creative ability of the individuals, and the synergy created is inspiring. Most of what is generated doesn't make it to the public, as sales are the goal, not necessarily being trend forward. The most impressive thing about the company is the process-any process. I have worked for several brands within Gap Inc., and all have a well vetted and successful process which is followed by all involved.

Cons

Due to the notability of the company as an International force, management takes the approach that each individual is undeserving and lucky to be in their position. Expectations are often not set, and when not met, the employee is not given direct and appropriate feedback. The level of communication is low, and any recognition or feedback comes as a result of company mandated awards. A highly competitive environment, employees are often placed in direct competition with one another in a team environment. This creates a situation where team members are less apt to work together, share ideas, but rather work in isolation. I have also seen something with HR and management that is very disconcerting-once they have targeted someone, that person has no chance of improvement. Whether it is a performance issue, a personal issue, or simply they have been gossiped about and it has caused friction on the team...that person will be terminated or made miserable until they go. I have seen many people who are incompetent in their positions who have been there for years, and some who are only there for a few short months. There is no rhyme or reason. But this is certain, someone always needs to be a project.

Pros

surely th 50% clothing discount. for banana republic clothing at least, as that is the most quality of the three brands. and you can always stock up on business suits at that discount right before you plan to quit. Also, the cafe of course. fantastic healthy, but tasty food and truly genuine and nice people were staffed in the cafe. loved the tuna melt

Cons

i worked as an administrative assistant for 8 years. At first, I was hooked, I repeated the mantra 'you be you' every day, participated, smile on my face, thought that yes I too was contributing the best I could. And I taped the corporate mantra 'you be you' to my desk. Yes, you can be you, but if you are an admin assistant or merchandise assistant just beware that YOU will never be compensated in the same and fair fashion as your colleagues. You will never receive a bonus. Every single type of employee in that company, receives a year end bonus, that is unless, you are administrative support. why is that? for such an egalitarian environment to segregate a group of employees and compensate them down from ALL the others...well, when your bills add up and rent sky rockets again...it becomes a bummer. and then you the the bad 'tude.
