Pros
There's a decent employee discount at Gap as well as sister brands like Banana Republic, Old Navy and Athleta. The merchandise has a classic feel while staying on top of trends at the same time. Also, Gap offers 12 free mental health counseling sessions per year to even part time employees; which can be very beneficial in times like this.
Cons
Gap pays significantly less than many other fashion retailers, Too much emphasis is put on promoting the Gap Brand credit card. Those people that are good at getting cards are looked more favorably and given more priviledges than other employees. although the other employees might have other talents that are equally valuable and help the stores function successfully, Management is very short sighted when it comes to training and allowing everyone to perform various tasks. Also, Gap talks a good line about being very diverse. However, the particular location that I work at in the Midwest has very few people of color working there. Management seems to favor a certain look and demographic group; young white people. Also, don't expect longer than five hour shifts, unless you belong to the clique that management favors. Also, newer hires get offered more pay per than employees that have been there longer and have more experience.
