Pros
The best reason to work for Extra Space would be job security. As long as you perform and you show up for work, you keep your job. The environment is not great, but you have the option to work from home after proving yourself. The pay is mediocre now but used to be quite competitive... it's still an upgrade for anyone working a retail or restaurant job.
Cons
It is very easy to go unnoticed. You can make real sacrifices in your personal and family life and not be recognized. They say you are going to get opportunities because the company is growing but really, they strive to bring outsiders in, instead of promoting from within. Complaints to upper-level executives are often met with no action. The HR department at the NSC (National Sales Center) is constantly changing, this leaves the lower-level employees feeling helpless when major issues arise. Veteran/Active Duty support has been requested for years and has not made any progress, for employees or customers both. The environment at the NSC is quite bland, it starts to feel like a day at the DMV after a couple of hours. There's no gym access, no meal benefits, no activity center to release your wiggles or decompress from your workday. Socializing in the workplace is frowned upon. This is not a team environment. While maintaining the imagery of a team and separating agents into teams, it's very individual driven. Team Leads are often overwhelmed with extra projects that higher leadership should not delegate. In terms of technology, the company has a lot of improvement that needs to be done... including the very software you will use to convert sales. Paid holidays are dwindling.
