CTO is obsessed with Glassdoor reviews!

Pros

Free junk food. Friendly coworkers who can laugh off executive teams lack of knowledge.

Cons

The CTO is totally obsessed with these really bad Glassdoor reviews that tell the truth about what it's like to work here. He HAS to respond to them. He has even recently ordered a few of us to write positive reviews to balance out the bad ones. The CTO micromanages all the science and engineering. But he clearly doesn't know what he's doing. But you have to agree with him or your job is under threat. Everyone knows this so you end up with everyone who never disagrees getting promotions and the ones who challenge his dumb ideas laid off or demoted. The CTO is a bully who abuses his position to mask his insecurities. In the last two MONTHS alone one person has been laid off, one has been fired, and three people have quit. There's only twenty-something people at this company! The management claim this is due to the startup environment but the company is over 8 years old! It's not a start up any more! People leave this company so often because of the CTO. I'm just praying any new investors install their own executive team to take over from this mess.

It appears that you might be obsessed with the CTO. We at Biological Dynamics wish you well in all of your future endeavors. As CTO, I pride myself with the being a part of this wonderful journey. A few technical fixes for any who read your review: The company was founded in 2008, not started. BioDyn's doors opened in May 2010. I respond to the glassdoor reviews because it is a my habit to speak truth. I, have only written one review. Most people don't know that glassdoor exists. When they do and see what strange words are written about myself and the company, they themselves feel compelled to reply. I, again, wish you all the best at your new position. Thanks for your time at Biological Dynamics.

Will NOT survive with David as CTO.

Pros

Free junk food, easy parking.

Cons

The three highly rated reviews written on Jan 30, the 1 review written on Feb 3, and the 1 review written on Feb 5 looks as if they were written by David (CTO) himself. The points in those reviews are very similar to the CTO's replies of the negative reviews. They completely contradict all of the other 1 star reviews that were posted by other legitimate employees. The negative reviews are accurate to my personal experience at this company. The CTO uses "start-up" experience as a reason or excuse for the negative reviews but all one has to ask is "When was this company started?" It is no longer a start up at 8 years and little to no profits. CTO is closed minded, inconsiderate, and condescending to those below him. His ego blinds him to better solutions from other employees. He and Raj must understand that a companies best asset is not its technology or its product, but is its employees. When your employees don't like their work environment, they will not work for the benefit of the company or the product. Employees go to work every day looking over their shoulder and looking for another job in case they have to leave BioDyn.

Thanks for your post and time at Biological Dynamics. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. I, as CTO, agree that all of the recent reviews contradict the low star reviews. I did not write them. I comment on reviews as an employer. The reason they contradict is because most of the employees at Biological Dynamics have a wonderful time in an open environment where ideas are shared and tried. You were a part of that environment, but voluntarily decided to leave. If memory permits, you received a better position with hirer salary. That happens all the time in the workforce and we are excited for you. I don't know what has caused this rage and hate themed review. You, as all science and engineering focused employees, were treated with respect and were allowed to work freely and use your skills to help solve the fun challenges we face at Biological Dynamics. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

New equipment and convenient location. Every PRO CTO mentioned in his post is not true. Please see the Cons section below.

Cons

Great environment to share ideas in an open and professional environment. --This is simply not true at Biological Dynamics. Let me give you a few examples. (i) Depending on CTO's mood, he would shut down your ideas without any scientific ground. He once claimed that he did not believe in next-generation sequence but later on ate his own words. No matter how good of a scientist/engineer you are, he would not listen to you even with perfect data and facts. (ii) Biological Dynamics is far from being a professional environment. The CTO made a bunch of jokes based on races and sexes. He once said that I would be "lucky" to get lung cancer since there was drug developed for my ethnic group in a group meeting. Company rewards self-motivated individuals. -- This is not true. Biological Dynamics only award those who obey CEO's and CTO's orders. Those who truly contributed to the company were either laid-off or demoted. Company means tests all ideas and are open to dynamic change as long as the changes reflect the corporate goals related to technology and scientific development. Gives people responsibility and allows each voice to be heard. -- This is not true. Biological Dynamics changes their goals based on CEO's and CTO's moods. There is no scientific guideline. They just do what they feel like of the day. During my short stint there, they went back and forth at least 4-5 times for my projects. I would perform some experiments to achieve the goals they set for me. Once I achieved it, they would change the goals for me to do more experiments. Once I achieve their goals again, they would switch back to the original goals and dismissed all the works I did. This is extremely frustrating for a well-trained scientist. Most important of all, CTO and CEO lack fundamental understanding of science and thus cannot assess different technologies in a very dynamically evolving field. It took them a while to understand difference between DNA and RNA, and I am still not sure if they are well-informed of what NGS means.

Thanks for your response. The engineering staff has done a wonderful job of developing groundbreaking technology and we have demonstrated excellent clinical results. We don't understand the nature of your review. The technology, data, and product speak for itself. We are a young management team and prone to mistakes. The malicious characterization of the CEO and CTO are completely unfounded and are sorry that you feel so strong to write such a review. All of your comments are either misquotes or claiming things others in the company said and pinning them on the CTO. As CTO, I definitely said I don't think NGS is ready for prime time given the noise profile. This is something many groups also say and have come up with noise suppression techniques to address. Thanks for your response. We would like to wish you the best in your future endeavors.
