Pros

It’s easy to make friends. Working from home is possible. Salary and package is pretty good (about £24k + travel paid for a 22 year old 2nd year Trainee Surveyor). There is annual salary increases and small bonuses (£500ish) A good place to start out at but don’t count on advancing your career here at Axis. It is impossible to get chartered here due to lack of experience and qualified surveyors to mentor you.

Cons

There is no structure to the apprenticeship programme, you are just thrown into a team and left to get on with it. Most of the time trainees are just completing admin work and not learning or visiting sites at all. You will never be put on a training course or seminar to advance your knowledge. The projects are fairly boring to work on and they don’t require much input from Surveyors. Senior management never check up on trainees because there are just so many of them! Basic processes like payments to subcontractors are outdated and always result in issues. Surveyors are expected to take on accounting roles which shouldn’t be the case. The company seems to be run like a small family company when it is a multi million pound main contractor with hundreds of employees.

Pros

There is nothing good about working for this company

Cons

Worst company ever. Bullying by managers. Senior Management ignore issues brought to their attention and do absolutely nothing to resolve the bullying and laziness of lower managers. All Managers are lazy. Staff do not stay due to the stress levels caused by the bullying and the overload of work. Team managers think they are too senior to actually do any work or answer a call. When you challenge a manager, they put you on performance review as they hate being challenged or questioned as to what they should be doing

Pros

Up until recently it's been a good company to work for. Senior management are approachable, promotions mostly internal so potential for career progression is good.

Cons

Currently in the middle of a merger, and things seem to be changing (for the worse) so not sure how it will be in a few years. Seems like penny pinching will become regular, including doing away with annual inflation based pay rises

Pros

Good team in my immediate department. Not bad for salary however payrises require too much rigmarole to be considered from my experience dealing with them. Will send on relevant training courses to further develop you which is great.

Cons

Senior management aren't helpful. Certain upper management treat you like dirt and a out and out rude. Job roles not stuck to, certain positions are wasting time with pointless tasks however this stems from the certain upper management it wasn't always like this.
