Mezze Bar Limited operates a busy, high-volume restaurant, bar and café in central Auckland. We are seeking an experienced Senior Waiter / Senior Hospitality Worker to supervise and coordinate front of house operations across the restaurant, bar and coffee service areas, while leading and developing the front of house team. The role combines hands-on service with staff supervision, service-quality control and day-to-day operational responsibility, and reports to the Assistant Manager.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Operations:
- Oversee daily front of house operations across the restaurant, bar and coffee service areas, and coordinate workflow between the kitchen, bar and front of house teams.
- Monitor and maintain service-timing and presentation standards, manage bookings and table allocations, and lead service during high-volume periods.
- Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, and ensure compliance with food-safety and licensing requirements.
Team supervision and development:
- Supervise and coordinate the front of house team, conduct briefings, allocate duties and assist with rostering and staff scheduling.
- Monitor staff performance, provide feedback, identify training needs, and mentor and support junior team members.
Customer service and quality control:
- Maintain the highest standards of customer service, handle complex enquiries and resolve service issues across all shifts.
- Conduct service-quality and cleanliness audits, ensure consistent product presentation, and implement and monitor food-safety procedures.
Administration:
- Assist in developing and implementing operational procedures, maintain accurate records of sales, stock and staff performance, and report on service metrics.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
Skills, qualifications and experience required:
- At least 3 years of relevant hospitality experience.
- Demonstrated experience supervising or coordinating a front of house team in a busy hospitality environment.
- Thorough knowledge of food and beverage service standards, and a sound understanding of menu and wine-list knowledge (dishes, accompaniments, portion sizes and wine matchings). Knowledge of Mediterranean, Turkish, Spanish cuisines.
- Competence with point-of-sale systems and cash-handling procedures, inventory control, and staff scheduling and roster management.
- A working understanding of food-safety regulations and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Availability to work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
- A New Zealand Manager’s Certificate under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 (or the Licence Controller Qualification) a bonus.
Physical requirements: the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry up to 15kg, and move quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Pay: $26.00 – $32.00 per hour
