QA Engineer — Job Description

Position summary

Design, execute, and maintain quality assurance processes for software products by developing test plans, creating and running automated and manual tests, identifying defects, and partnering with engineering to ensure reliable, high-quality releases.

Key responsibilities

• Test planning: Create comprehensive test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria aligned with product requirements and user stories.
• Test execution: Perform manual and automated testing (functional, regression, integration, UI, API, performance as applicable).
• Automation development: Design, build, and maintain automated test suites using appropriate frameworks and tools.
• Bug tracking &* reporting:* Log, prioritize, and verify defects; communicate issues clearly to developers and stakeholders; track resolution.
• CI/CD &* test integration:* Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and fast feedback loops.
• Performance &* reliability testing:* Execute load, stress, and performance tests and analyze results to identify bottlenecks.
• Test environment management: Configure and maintain test environments, test data, and test harnesses; coordinate with dev/ops for environment needs.
• Quality metrics &* reporting:* Define and monitor QA metrics (test coverage, pass/fail rates, defect density, escape rate) and report release readiness.
• Collaboration &* mentorship:* Work closely with product managers, developers, and UX to clarify requirements; mentor junior QA staff.
• Process improvement: Drive improvements in QA processes, test automation strategy, and overall software quality practices.
• Security &* compliance testing:* Support security testing and ensure compliance with relevant standards where applicable.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years experience in software QA or testing roles (varies by seniority).
• Proficiency with at least one programming/scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript).
• Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG).
• Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST-assured) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (Agile/Scrum) and testing methodologies.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling) and test coverage tools.
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• ISTQB or equivalent certification.
• Experience with observability/monitoring tools and SRE collaboration.

Pay: $4,472.45 – $5,845.92 per month
