      Director Interview

      16 May 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Zillow (Seattle, WA) in Feb 2021

      Interview

was a phone screen. Asked a bunch of theoritical ideal organizational questions which was really odd, considering I had not talked to literally anyone yet. I got the impression that I wasn't even talking to anyone in the hiring chain, so had no context at all to even talk about the job. Didn't learn much about the job, the company or the group which was frustrating.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

organizational theoretical structures, for an unknown structure. They were odd questions to be asking considering the stage of the process. All theoretical. Left with no understanding of the group is actually going to do, which seemed to be how they wanted it.

      Application

I interviewed at Zillow (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

Phone interview went really well, but the first department interview was useless. Met with someone who was asked to cover the position until they hired someone and would end up being a direct report. This individual had no understanding of strategic planning or creating roadmaps. Most of the questions were about how I'd manage the team. Personally I do not think that the first interview should be with one direct report. It can be later, but with more than one (as their opinion was the only one). Not impressed Zillow!

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Zillow (Seattle, WA) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Started with a phone screening with the recruiter. After that it was a 30 minute phone call with the hiring manager who decided to bring me onsite. The onsite interviews were 1:1s for 30-45 minutes each. Overall the interview was enjoyable and covered a broad range of skills required for the role.
