I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Zendesk (Auckland, Auckland) in Jun 2026
Interview
Only made it through the initial screening call. The talent team rep was great, very personable and easy to speak to.
We ran through 2 very light questions on my experience, but ran out of time to discuss the role or the org.
Call ended with asking what my expected salary would be, which in the context of a sales role, is a hard question to answer without understand the role, OTE and a number of other factors.
Some follow up questions were sent on email and for a 2nd time I was asked what my expectation around salary would be. I pushed back asking for more insight on the role, only to be told the hiring manager believes my experience is “too left field” (and my questions weren’t answered).
Massive red flag - at no point was the role itself discussed in any detail and no conversation around what the company was budgeting for the role.
Screams of American business with American leadership that is going to struggle in the NZ market.
