I was suggested to TripAdvisor by a third party recruiter. I was told that they wanted to have a phone interview with me, so I got comfortable in a distraction-free section of my house with no computers/electronics nearby. About 2 minutes into the interview, the hiring manager had expected me to have a computer to review/submit code, but this was not stated prior to my interview. Fortunately, I was able to get to my computer and boot it up for the interview, but I was a bit frazzled at this point. I got asked a bunch of challenging questions related to algorithms, but I did not know some of the more obscure answers since the questions were clearly lifted from the depths of a textbook. Finally, I was told a couple days later that they were no longer interested in my candidacy. This seems like a blessing in disguise because if their interview process was riddled with poor communication, I wonder what the day-to-day would have been like there anyways.
