      Marketing Interview

      4 Nov 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2015

      Interview

Very straightforward. 1. Quick chat with the HR. 2. Hiring manager and final 3. On-site - case study interview. How to describe the process? The most soulless and heartless hr process I have ever experienced. On the other hand, given all the hype, I thought it was good that they were very focused on asking important and tough questions without the "feel-good-type" of questions. For example, there was no question about "Why do you want to join Slack" or "why do you love superman" (typical startup questions). They were very professional and to the point. The problem was that it just fell flat. No feedback. No emotion. I even made a joke in the first phone interviews, but the interviewer just carried onto the next question w/ breathing. I'm actually suspecting now that I was interviewed by bots. After the interview, I felt I didn't want to take the job.

      Question 1

Mostly situational analysis. Focused on how to solve specific problems they're facing now - as they grow so fast.

      Interview

Initial interviews with HR very positive. Lady said she would put me through to the next round but then heard nothing. I follows up and was told that they might be hiring an internal candidate instead. They never got back to me to confirm so I assume they did.

      Interview

My phone buzzed with a canned decline letter at 10pm PST on a Friday night a day after for a position I more than met the qualifications for. Fortunately, my resume passed the ATS at other highly esteemed companies, and I am currently working at one as well. Reading these reviews about the impersonal process and lack of respect for people’s time, such as the time it takes to apply or interview only to bizarrely be rejected, I am relieved it ended here. It’s a hot job market, but have some tact and don’t sent automated rejection emails late at night. If you have a preferred location for a remote role, perhaps you should say so.

      Interview

Overall the process went fine. Had an initial interview with a recruiter and a short second interview. I was then tasked with an assignment/ project. After I submitted the project I did not hear from them. I reached out to follow up and was told they moved forward with someone else. I did not receive any feedback regarding my interviews or project.
