      Staff Software Engineer Interview

      19 Apr 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Bengaluru
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at MobileIron (Bengaluru) in Mar 2017

      Interview

I applied through a referral but it took about 2 months to get a call from the HR. They were probably interviewing several candidates and hence the delay. However, once the HR got in touch, it was a smooth process. The first stage was a HackerRank test which was for 1 hour. It was of average difficulty, though i found that time was a slightly less (maybe 15 mins more would have helped). Once I did the test, I was called for an onsite interview within a few days. 3 folks interviewed me and I was very happy with the attitude of the interviewers. All of them were helpful, humble and were open to listening to my ideas, instead of just showing off their skills (like many folks at other prdt dev companies do). The questions were more to understand my design skills (since coding was testing via HackerRank) as this was a senior position. You need to have a good understanding about threads, multiple readers & writers scenario, when to use synchronization and when volatile vars would be sufficient, etc. I wasn't asked to write complete code, but they were interested to understand where and how i would use threads, in their scenario. Scalability was another important topic and they asked about how / where i can use scalability to improve database layer in a cloud appln. REST api design for a e -book application was a topic of discussion, as the interviewer wanted to know how I would model the application. A few simple puzzles to gauge the aptitude were asked, but no questions from geekforgeeks. I also spoke to the director and found her to be very welcoming. She described the work and wanted to know the reason for change. I was told that an offer would be made and received one within few days. The pay package was very good as well! The focus was more on design and If someone has done that a lot during their regular work, it would be helpful. Just talk and explain the thought process and they will help you out, in case you are stuck. Overall, it was a very positive experience and the HR was very helpful and responsive. The team composition and the interview panel was one thing that really stood out!

      Staff Software Engineer Interview

      14 Sept 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Mountain View, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MobileIron (Mountain View, CA) in Sept 2018

      Interview

Contacted by recruiter via LinkedIn. I had an offer from another high profile tech company back then. I wanted to try out my luck with Mobile Iron because their technology seemed interesting (enterprise cloud security) so I sent my resume to the recruiter. Recruiter pinged me back saying Hiring Mgr wants to bring me Onsite directly. *Onsite interview consisted of algorithms questions (not that difficult), they asked me about my work experience, etc.* Interview was for about 5 hours. Next day recruiter called me & said team is interested to make an offer but Mgr insisted that I would be a greater fit in a more challenging role so I was asked to interview in that team (Onsite interview that consisted of 2-2.5 hours). I had a talk with Hiring Mgr to understand th need for second interview, during the course of conversation Hiring Mgr insisted that "he felt work ethics in the high profile tech company I got an offer from, was really bad & also stated that he is not saying this because he likes me to work for them but as a general note" (remember his words while reading the next paragraph) After the interview (a day later), I tried contacting recruiter to check if there is any feedback, he mentioned that team is interested in hiring me for 1st position instead of the second position, to which I agreed. Next day recruiter came back & said Hiring Mgr decided to hire someone internally instead, so they are withdrawing their offer (which they even confirmed previous day). Thank god I was not foolish to drop my first offer based on my communication with this Hiring Mgr, it would have been a big blunder. This is a very bad interview experience.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MobileIron (Bengaluru) in Nov 2016

      Interview

Contacted by an consultant for the position. Had one online test which had 4 algorithm problem. Then after 2 weeks got a call for F2F. There was suppose to be 4 rounds but then after the second round, the interview decided himself and ask me to leave. First round was good and on multi-threading questions and implementation. The interviewer was well prepared for the interview. Second round - the interviewer was not prepared for the interview. He started looking at the profile in front of me and was asking random questions in Java. He asked, implement ReentrantReadWriteLock even after I said I have not used it but he was like try (without giving the functionality needed). He then went on to all over the Java features (some which I had ever used and some I used like 5-6 years ago). Classloader, Serialization, Clonable, SecurityManager etc. Even after I gave him the answers, he tried to confuse you and was mocking in between by laughing. Not at all professional and the attitude was not good. Though I went to the interview with great experience expectation, the 2nd round gave a real bad feeling. The guy was just another show off.
