      Web Developer Interview

      Accepted offer

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Miva (San Diego, CA) in Aug 2017

      Interview

First, there’s a phone interview with someone from HR. This is where you got to be careful with what you say. They will ask if you ok with making a $40’000 salary and that there’s a bonus structure in place for making around $10’000 more per year. This is the bait. Don’t fall for it. If you agreed to the low salary (depending on your experience, this might be higher but it’s still nowhere near what you should be offered), don’t expect to be able to negotiate later. If you ask for more than what you’re offered, the interview will not proceed. Once you get past the terrible salary offer, you’re invited to an in-person interview, generally consisting of the director of whichever department you applied to and two managers or team leaders that are knowledgeable in the field you’ll be working in. Questions really depend on what you’re applying for, generally there’s a mix of technical and personal questions, some will be directed towards something that you put in your resume. Once they’ve made a decision, you’ll either be notified by email of bad news or called on the phone to congratulate you. For web developers, it’s been a new practice for team leaders to also send you a welcome card in the mail accompanied by some chocolate or candy.

Screening video call with a recruiter. They asked many basic things and then offer 60-90k for a mid-level role. Then they just ghosted. I sent a follow-up email and got no reply. Show some courtesy for your candidates, will you?

      Interview

One of Miva's internal recruiters reached out to me via Linkedin and we had a brief phone call to see if the position would be a good fit. An in-person interview was scheduled where I met with folks from HR, as well as the tech and dev managers. Everyone was incredibly friendly and personable.
