The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Chef Software in Jan 2017
Interview
This was a total waste of time. The entire process felt like I was only being interviewed to fill a quota and my time was not valued by the company.
I applied on-line for the job. The hiring manager e-mailed me and we set up a phone interview where I described my experience with the sales cycle and managing infrastructure. I was told we'd set up another round for next week.
A few weeks went by and I got a homework assignment and a presentation to give. The homework was really easy and the presentation was a collection of slides I had to talk about. I was told the presentation would be in front of 4-5 people from the team and they'd ask questions.
When I arrived for the presentation, only the hiring manager was there. (That's always a blatant sign the interview is just to fill a quota.) I gave the presentation and was constantly asked how the software would work on exact server models. I don't think anyone off the street could possibly know that. The hiring manager gave me high marks on my presentation but said they were disappointed by my lack of knowledge on how the software worked on specific server models. I asked how I could learn the answers to those questions and was told it would only come with experience on the job.
I did not get an offer because they went with an internal candidate.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Chef Software (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY) in Dec 2020
