OK. Here I go. This is one of the worst ever interview I have ever taken.
RULE OF THUMB- There is nothing called QA/Testing job in Amazon. Period. They just need a bunch of developers , especially Java , to do testing. Yes you read it correct ! They just want to hire developers to do testing job.
1. I am really not sure how they got my name for this role. This was a basic tester role. I am QA lead and I did not code since almost an year. I double checked the recruiter on this and she replied back saying its more of a QA project management role. I was hesitant - but still was speculating. I was really paranoid about the process anyway.
2. I reponded back saying I would be interested if, ONLY IF, it was a senior role.
3. My interview was set up - I looked up the interviewer on LinkedIn and she just had barely 4 years of experience - as a tester - exactly half of my experience in years. I thought this was crazyly** ridiculous.
4. My interview begins - No personal questions asked - this lady was speaking as if she was just out of Kindergarten. She directly jumps and asks me - 'What is an Array' and starts typing numbers and tells me to write the code. What the hell ??? I can write pages of this woman who interviewed me - Amazon should teach english and behavioural skills to such employees. No ethics, no rules of interview which were followed !! She should purchase the books - 'english for dummies' and 'rules of interview for dummies' from her own company website - amazon.com.
5. My resume never said I was a developer. If I knew all those questions, I would be developer , not a tester !!!
6. I was talking my terms - like my areas of expertise - QA, QA Management, SAP Purchase Orders, QAI training etc - and she put a blank face - No sound !!! She just had NO CLUE of all that stufff.
7. She was a QA tester - having no clue what QAI means - yea I understood that they dont have QA procedures being followed. That was it. I didnt care for her or her questions.
8. After the interview, I emailed the recruiter that I will not accept the job even if offered.
Warning - If you are a developer, interested in testing - then apply for a QA job at amazon.
Note to Amazon - Hire developers for your QA work - and pre-screen your own employees who will be taking interviews.
