Does Columbia University offer parental leave?

Pros

Good family benefits including 6 weeks full pay for maternity leave for officers of administration, well developed support for families with child care or housing needs. Good opportunities for advancement and networking within the university once you’re in. Commitment to diverse hiring, good onboarding process.

Cons

Siloed HR departments and a massive central bureaucracy mean it takes an amazing amount of time to get anything done correctly. Federal grant funding for research coming to the university leads to a CYA mentality that hampers process improvement. Unclear performance review process.

Does Columbia University offer a wellness program?

Pros

Great compensation, health benefits, and time off.

Cons

Bad clique culture within management. Managers often do not work well with one another or with lower level employees outside of their departments. There are no performance reviews and no consequences for employees that do none to little work.

Advice to Management

Managers need to learn to work together to accomplish goals, support their employees in regards to safety concerns.

Does Columbia University offer life insurance?

Pros

Health insurance is okay. (Vision coverage sucks)

Cons

For living in an expensive city being a technician doesn't pay well, but at least working at an Ivy league looks nice.
