We work and live in the communities we serve, which means investing in where we all call home. Our Spectrum Community Center Assist program focuses on improving the physical conditions of community centers in underserved rural and urban neighborhoods while providing job skills training and technology for the people who live there. Through our community center partnerships, our employees volunteer to renovate and improve classroom spaces and other areas at the centers, while the company provides technology and equipment including laptops, smartboards and furniture, to enhance participants’ learning experience. Mark, Construction Manager, grew up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin helping maintain the cabins and boats at his family’s 16-acre lakefront resort. Mark’s hometown is one of the many rural communities in the United States that does not have access to broadband. Now, he is part of our rural construction initiative, helping to transform life in his town and boost small businesses. Sometimes, a gentle nudge is what we need to go out of our comfort zone and do something that benefits us. For Alex, one of our Maintenance Technicians, that nudge came from the top. Alex joined the company in 1999 in the installation department. Seven years later, he accepted a role as a Maintenance Technician, where he mentored and trained colleagues to help them advance their careers. Last year, Alex received a letter from company leaders outlining the self-progression opportunities available to him at Spectrum. While self-progression coursework wasn't Alex's preferred learning style, he recognized this was a chance for him to step out of his comfort zone and take advantage of the career development offered to him.
