Pros

None that I can think of. I would put 0 stars if I could.

Cons

The most unprofessional workplace environment that I have ever worked in. There is absolutely no diversity. Racism, sexism, and discriminatory comments acceptable and said by management (CEO, President, and upper level managers). If you are a person of color or Black, stay far far away. Company presents itself as liberal and great place to work but all people of color eventually seek safety elsewhere. POC do not stay here for long. Unfair hiring practices and recruiting based on "culture fit" equates to Jim Crow 2.0

An unfortunate decline, even C-level is leaving

The people within the teams are great and are doing their best to uphold the culture commercetools use to have

* The constant gaslighting is exhausting and frankly insulting. Tough decisions have to be made, that is logical. However, the management does not have enough respect of their colleagues to be honest about why things are happening and come up with "you don't understand why this is good for you" reasons. When the RTO was announced, it was literally sold as a positive because people that would now have to commute have so much extra time to call their mom. * Product is being sold before it is built. Customers are buying C-level fever dreams * There is a severe lack of a plan of what the company should achieve, aside from running towards the flickering flame of AI * The new CEO (third one in less than three years) could not care less about the people within the company.

We’re genuinely sorry to hear that this was your experience. No one should leave feeling unheard or disrespected, and we take feedback like this seriously. The last few years have required meaningful decisions as customer expectations, technology, and the broader market have shifted quickly. Those decisions impact real people, and we understand that they don’t always land the same way for everyone. When changes happen, our responsibility is to communicate clearly and directly about why they are being made and where we are headed. We have always operated as a hybrid company. The shift last year formalized a three-day-a-week hub requirement for employees who live near a hub location. Team members were given several months’ notice to prepare, and we invested in our office spaces and infrastructure to support increased in-person collaboration. That investment continues. We know this approach does not work for everyone, and we respect that. On product and AI, we have a defined roadmap and long-term strategy that has been shared internally, including through our 2026 planning and All Hands discussions. Customers are asking for AI-ready, unified commerce infrastructure, and our teams are building toward that in a deliberate way. We are proud of the engineers, product leaders, and operators who are turning that strategy into shipped capabilities. Leadership transitions can create uncertainty, and we understand how that can feel. Our focus remains on building a durable company with a clear direction and supporting the people doing the work every day. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and wish you the very best in what comes next.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It’s nice to hear that you felt supported by our total compensation package, and that you’ve enjoyed working amongst your fellow commercetoolers. We communicated our return-to-office policy in November 2024 to give employees a minimum of four months of advance notice (and ten months of advance notice in many cases) before requiring office attendance. We strongly believe that this policy will allow us to better strengthen our collaboration and increase engagement for our employees.
