Unreasonable CTO, Fake product

Pros

Some interesting Python code. Can't think of anything else... maybe standing desks?

Cons

CTO is a bad manager. Unreasonable demands, rejects ideas, doesn't listen to advice from people with experience. First time I had a manager that expected me to work when I'm sick. A manager that thought picking up my kids from school was optional and asked "can't your partner do it?" CEO is cut-throat professional manipulator. The entire company is a fraud - they market themselves as AI company, but end of the day it's just false. The AI is not ready and they have an army of Data Analysts looking at the numbers on some messy dedicated servers. Salary very low. %30 below market. they use the fact they appear as an innovative startup to lower your ask.

I really regret your views and I am very sorry for the experience that you had. I do accept that I have a lot to learn and improve as a manager. I have always favored "working smart over working hard". It is absolutely not the norm at causaLens to work when sick or to not to have family life balance and we have many employees (myself included) with children. It is also absolutely not correct that I have asked you to work when sick or to not pick up your child. I also respect and take into account everyone's ideas, including yours. However, your ideas were not why you were let go during your probation period. Ultimately, you were let go for subpar performance and not delivering and your tenure at causaLens was very short. Probation period do exist to make sure there is a mutual fit but we couldn't find one. Unfortunately this happens and I am sorry for it. You have good potential - that's why I offered you the job in the first place - and I hope you will soon find a role that you love. I will not comment on the rest of the things you wrote except to state they are all categorically untrue. I hope all is well with you and your family. I wish you all the best in your career. Pros

Flexible working. Some very smart people on the tech side. A couple of really good and kind managers on tech side also.

Cons

Horrendous management. CEO regularly lies to potential and existing customers about the company product as well as our existing customers and use cases. Culture is terrible, feels like everyone is either waiting to get out or else just coasting until the company inevitably dies out. Chief of staff provides no value and actively ruins company morale. Both he and the CEO have the potential to tank deals just by joining a single customer call with the way they lie about the company.

A waste of potential

Pros

The bottom-up team consists of smart people trying to solve hard problems

Cons

The senior team is unfit to lead a company: - Clear favouritism towards yes-men - Anyone willing to speak the truth about challenges to be faced will be terminated - Major strategic shifts every few months, requiring a total reset of customer base and product - Frequent lying, both to internal stakeholders (for example, on matters of compensation and why decisions have been made) and to customers (for example, about what the product can do and who has used it). As a result, the turnover (some voluntary, some involuntary) has been high and morale is correspondingly low. I don't see the company surviving much longer on its own.
