Pros

You will see reviews glow about how phenomenal the product is, how intellectual the leadership is, and how smart and capable the employees are. You'll read reviews about the remarkable last few years of growth for the company, and how it's a unicorn with a sparkling potential future. All these things are true, but they come at a massive cost to the employees.

Cons

Realize that when a company coincidentally has five 5-star reviews within a couple days, this is the People Ops Team trying to do damage control in the absence of being able to make real progress (think - transparent pay ranges, leveling bands, justification for who gets promoted, career pathing, or resolution to systemic gender pay discrepancies). The leadership team's failure to take accountability for a toxic culture has been remarkable. They are smart men (almost entirely men), but they have created a toxic culture where groupthink, dysfunction, politics, indecision and a lack of accountability run supreme. You will never work in an environment that requires so much political maneuvering to get things accomplished, or where differing ideas are just blatantly ignored. The company's failure to address gender pay inequities, especially when you take into account any quantifiable performance, is insulting and has the best female talent leaving. There is only so much condescension someone can take while being underpaid without any plan for resolution or explanation. It doesn't matter if you raise the issue with HR or outperform your peers by 10x. The executive team knows these issues exist and they have chosen not to actually correct this issue for female employees. Others have highlighted that the company does not understand focus, priorities or accountability. If you are looking for an organization with vision and planning, if you want to build skills in efficiency or cost-effective work for this new economic climate, if you want coaching from managers about skills/strategy - this is just NOT the organization for you. I went to Workato thinking I'd be there through an exit, and the challenges would have been fun and thought-provoking. Instead everyone there has bonded through the trauma of trying to survive the toxicity and fickle exec team.

Pros

Great, best-in-class product. Many nice, fun individuals will get you through your day. Good benefits, monthly wellness days off. High EQ CEO, he seems to genuinely care. They've brought in a few good leaders over the last 12 months who I hope can change things.

Cons

After 24 hours, I'm updating my review to say: I realize the title does not help the organization attract women (which it NEEDS to); however, I gave this feedback over three months ago to multiple senior & C-suite leaders prior to my leaving and based on my connections there, nothing has improved. So for the time being, until things do change (which I was really hopeful they would), I still would not recommend to any female jobseeker. This isn't a mean review, I did the company a huge favor by providing this feedback with months runway before going public. I'm also excluding the documented sexist behaviors I experienced. Systemic sexism and implicit bias are the biggest issues at Workato. It's really not malicious either- they just don't realize how women are given the "to-dos" while the boys club get to high-five and talk strategy...or whatever they talk about, because the organization lacks strategy. How that shows up is the longest list of goals (think size 8 font on one slide) because there is no focus or long term plan. Everything is tactical. And everything tactical is passed to the women. I was happy with my pay until I realized what my male counterparts were making. I was happy with my shares until I realized what my male counterparts had in shares. I was happy to work my tail off until I realized I was the do-er and the men were the face of the work. Many of the male leaders lack basic competence and EQ. It's concerning to feel like the smart one in the room when you absolutely should not be (given levels and years of experience.) Workato seems to operate under the "you can cost-cut your way to greatness". I have worked at other pre-IPO, fast growing start ups. There's a difference between healthy chaos and pure erraticism. Goals and directions change every day or week. No one can plan long term because decisions aren't made fast enough. There are a lot of meetings because a LOT of talking happens when sometimes you just need to DO and figure your way through it. Because of the last minute indecisiveness, people are stretched thin, burnt out and stressed when many of those stressors could be avoided with a SOUND, FOCUSED strategy in place. Roles are not scoped causing confusion and then leading others to become redundant. Leaders are mesmerized by logos on resumes and will hire people just to get them in the door before knowing what their role will be. It helps no one and is again, erratic. My mental health was low and stress was at an all-time high during my time here. There are things I take ownership for, and the majority in hindsight still hindered on how the organization operates and my direct manager.

Our team is continuing to educate ourselves on how bias, including implicit, towards our female colleagues, can show up in our work environment. We very much appreciated the feedback that you gave us when you left Workato. It has been a significant point of discussion and action internally. Specifically we have taken and are taking the following actions: 1. The leaders involved are undergoing a sensitivity training. 2. More broadly, to help address the issue in full scope, we are planning to roll out the training to people managers across the company. 3. The company recently completed a culture survey to collect detailed feedback and insights regarding leadership, diversity and inclusion, trust, among other themes. The survey responses and other feedback, including yours will further drive initiatives in our upcoming women-led focus groups. During this time, we will not only identify additional opportunities for change, but more importantly, discuss specific actions that we must take on commonly held sentiments and experiences shared by our female colleagues. 4. We investigated the specific compensation concern that you had raised. In this particular case, this was a result of an internal transfer from another department where the market benchmarks are typically higher. When it comes to gender, racial or any other demographic-based pay gaps, we are committed to building out a compensation philosophy and process that is centered around fairness and equity. Senior leadership is committed to taking action based on the feedback we receive. We are choosing to take these steps not only due to the feedback, but to thoughtfully effect positive change for the women of Workato, who all contribute to our mission in incredible ways and inspire those around them every single day. Pros

Majority of people at Workato are hard working individuals and always willing to help. The product is a leader in the iPaaS space, and I don't see that changing soon. In full transparency, this company should get a 5 star rating for the people that you get to work with here but leadership is the reason its a 1 star.

Cons

The cons of Workato all stem from leadership. They preach being humble but openly display their ego for the team to see. They let ego and office politics drive all his business decisions, including ignoring any feedback from the team. Workato also sells a product that creates alignment across teams, yet the team has very little alignment or even an idea of what other teams are doing. Marketing and sales don't talk, sales and product rarely connect on what customers are saying and the outbound team was moved to a an office in SF (to benefit certain leadership) even though many of those individuals lived near the headquarters in San Mateo. The lack of transparency, care, and leadership for the outbound team has caused 40% of the original team to quit. Growth is non-existent at the company, and its become a running joke to put in your two weeks to get the promotion they guaranteed month over month. To manipulate/alter this idea they give individuals title promotions (team lead, Inbound manager, revops) while making it clear its a title change and nothing more as the function of the role is the exact same. Even though these employees are the foundation of the company's success and growth, leadership still believes these employees are lucky to work for them, not that leadership is lucky to have such hard working individuals. When a company gets to a stage where individuals are thinking about leaving within their first few months, and end up leaving by a year, its a clear sign that there's a problem. If you're considering Workato, do your due diligence and research. Reach out to individuals on linkedin that work for the team, or individuals that left the company as they will give you an honest response (Don't just take what they tell you). Maybe look into competitors like Tray.io as they are booming and hiring too. Speaking from experience you don't want to work for leadership whom takes credit for what you achieve, whom manipulates employees through tactics like "As Your Friend/We think this would be best for your career", or whom tells you everything you want to hear but will only execute on what's best for them. Time is pivotal to your career and you don't want to waste a minute where you're not valued for what your bring, only for what they want you to do.
