Pros

Remote work and a monster mug

Cons

The equipment that they provided me was terrible: - Old, slow, low resolution HP laptop - Old, small, low resolution screen monitor - Used filty sticky mouse that came without a battery! Clearly just used my own one - Cheap company email that wasn't outlook or Gmail. My emails at times were taking 5 h to sync - either to send or to receive them! - They used Skype! Yes Skype instead of Teams or something like Slack etc They lied about my job spec making me focus on areas that I highlighted upfront where I didn't have speciality in They gave a few hours to sort out slide decks that were hundreds of pages and would blame me if I took too long They made me collect the equipment from the owners house, and I had to take it back when I left that job!

Lack of work, training and care

Pros

You get a Meta headset.

Cons

It took 5 months for me to work on my own client brief. During the waiting period I did some practice briefs, but when they ran out I was left to my own devices or given 'business development' tasks. Throughout the entire employment work was very haphazard and writers were made to feel the lack of work was their responsibility. Before I was fired from Word Monster due to 'budget cuts' and 'lack of work', I was signed off for 5 weeks following a very traumatic miscarriage. I had only been back at work for 3 weeks when I received an email stating my job was affected by the market conditions and I was immediately on garden leave. Six weeks after this conversation they are hiring for a senior medical writer. So, I can only assume they either didn't want to put the time into training me up to a more senior level or they were worried about having to pay for maternity leave. Avoid this company, their wellness and life-first facade is laughable once you join.
