Pros

Great sense of community, parents are very involved!

Cons

Very poor management of activities. Low pay for the relatively high hours you work as opposed to public school. A lot of wasted resources and opportunities to grow. You will have no social life. As a teacher I would arrive at around 6am and leave around 5pm. Expectations are high beyond the infrastructure and tools provided to you and any complain from teaching staff is met with pep talks about rising to the occasion. Most teachers don't last more than a year or two and leave. Staff is comprised of TFA candidates that didn't know better than to avoid this company.

High Stress, Low Reward

Pros

The schools are small and as a result you get to know your colleagues and students' families well. There's a sense of community. If you work hard, you get noticed and have room for growth.

Cons

Management is out of touch with the realities taking hold in the classroom and don't respond well to feedback (despite always asking for feedback). The days are long and there's not much planning time for teachers, leading to high burnout. There's a high turnover, so there aren't many mentors to help you grow and develop as a leader. Please, seek other opportunities.

Pros

Supportive management. Good working environment. Strong sense of commitment from colleagues. Ability to help Hispanic students from a low socioeconomic background. Selfless work that feels very similar to volunteering at times. Professionalism from management.

Cons

Gossipy / cliquey culture from classroom teachers. Troubled middle school students with a difficult home life. Expectation to discipline children who do not follow the rules. Micromanaging of students and their behavior can be excessive at times. Lack of communication from colleagues. Long hours 8am-4pm.
