High employee turn-over appears to be the norm here.

1. Clean work facility. 2. Underground parking. 3. Benefits.

Cons

1. Sweat shop mentality. 2. Work loads are heavy, that it is normal practice for employees to work through their lunches. 3. Some managers lack social skills, that it can come off as being cold and indifferent. 4. High employee turn over. 5. Raises don't really exist here. 6. No investment in keeping good solid employees who too often leave. 7. No company culture.

Thank you for your feedback. In the past 24 months we have focused our efforts on ways to make our company culture and values more tangible. We recognize that 5 words on a welcome board do not make a company culture, and therefore have transitioned our values into more of a behavioral guide or a "how we do things around here". Culture is defined as "what employees do when no one is watching", it's a garden that needs constant nurturing to avoid weeds taking over. We work hard to make Visual Data a great place to work, and without this honest feedback we cannot continue to get better.

Pros

I liked most of the people I worked with -- they were hardworking and cared about their job performance.

Cons

The Language Services department was always a whirlwind of impossible deadlines, misinformation, and plenty of finger pointing. Training was nonexistent, the reason being no one knew how to do anyone else's job. You learned that when one person left the company, they took vital information with them, and their replacement basically had to reinvent the wheel to succeed in the role. Success at VDMS is different from what you might think the word means. Success meant not working more than 9 hours a day, not having to skip lunch due to an overwhelming workload, not having to work OT over the weekend, etc. Success was waking up every day and making it through another shift, even when it felt like the company worked against you, demanding your all even when you were "off the clock." If this doesn't sound appealing to you -- it shouldn't -- I'd recommend staying far away from VDMS.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. While we try to encourage our employees to share their suggestions and feedback, as part of their “day-to-day” during employment, we welcome the feedback from ex-employees as well. It all helps us take steps towards our goal of being an amazing place to work. We have a number of training initiatives in place, which are proving successful, this is where we have placed the majority of our focus for 2018. There is no current strategy to "outsource" all of our Language Services work to our Bangalore team; bringing this team onboard has been a key part of our plan to increase capacity, extend coverage and maintain quality. We appreciate the extra time and effort our team gave to achieve this, we know that change and growth can sometimes be stressful, we work hard to provide a balance and understand that sometimes we fall short. For the sake of transparency, we do intentionally encourage all of our employees to review us on Glassdoor.com, our hope is to provide future employees a well-rounded perspective with a view into what we do well, and areas we need to improve; this has proven to be successful.

Pros

Nice people (for the most part), monthly "celebration" day, interesting clients (Netflix, WB, Disney, etc), nice office building, decent benefits, opportunity to advance somewhat (if you don't mind way more work for little extra pay)

Cons

This applies to the Language Services Department. Disorganized management who make promises but rarely follow through and often don't seem to know what they're doing, placing unnecessary stress and burden on employees and relying on them to work overtime/weekends to make up for their lack of ability to manage. They don't care about employees or their needs, no matter how reasonable or helpful. Limited foresight/planning, no forward thinking, no desire to organize workflows or make them more efficient. Everything is about the here and now, and the department is suffering and may collapse as a result. They don't know how to hire properly, which is odd given their long "firing squad" type interviews. Lots of bad/underskilled employees who can barely work a computer given more and more responsibility with limited to no training, and those who are good don't stick around very long, as they should. The current HR is terrible. Unresponsive and rude and disconnected from how the company actually works. She's also someone I suspect posted a lot of these current positive reviews on Glassdoor since they started suddenly showing up around the time she was hired. The previous HR woman was great, but they fired her for some reason and, in typical company policy of terrible hires, got this incompetent one to replace her. Another great job. Also, dull environment that discourages socializing (employees not even allowed to bring a guest to their yearly holiday celebration...come on). Doesn't feel like a community or a place with much personality.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on working at Visual Data. We hear countless stories of careers and friendships being made under this roof, and are saddened that your experience here wasn’t as positive. In the past year, we have been fortunate that our Language Services department has grown exponentially. This rapid expansion brings accelerated career opportunities to our team, but it also means that we need to make changes to evolve our workflows, optimize staffing, and invest even more in our training. This is our highest priority since we want the people who work here to be the primary beneficiaries of our rapid growth, and to have long, satisfying careers with us. Change does not always happen as quickly as we would like. We have a lot of people we want to be happy with the strategies we implement, and so we invest a lot of time building internal consensus. Your review tells me we need to be even more communicative about the ways we are evolving the company to serve our team, and perhaps make changes more quickly. Thank you again for your review.
