Pros

I was here for almost a year and loved every second of it. From top to bottom everyone was great with helping understand the entire company. The interview process is thorough because they want it to be the right fit for both parties which shows with who gets hired. The atmosphere was great day in and day out and as a small start up it turns into a close family. You get thrown into action right away which causes you to learn every aspect of the sales process. If you love sports and want an opportunity for quick growth work here.

Cons

It’s not a 9-5 job, which can be a con for some. If you want to make money and bring on customers you are going to have to work some nights and weekend. Some of these coaches have day jobs or training throughout the day. If you want to be the best you have to sacrifice some time and sell whenever you can.

Pros

Casual dress code, can occasionally enjoy a beer in the office. Located right in the heart of downtown- but no parking or monthly stipend.

Cons

I am not sure where to begin... I worked full-time on the sales team for about 8 months. Their product definitely has potential, but isn't quite there. It lacks major functions needed by the sports industry and so that can make it difficult to sell. I started with two girls at the same time. There were also two other senior reps.. that team has dwindled down to literally one person. The review below about not earning their last commission check is a 100 percent true. They tried to not pay me on my last commission check as well (and this wasn't the first hiccup regarding pay). Some of leadership is really great. Some I am not sure how or why they are in their position. This is a very big bro culture so if you're into that you will love this place. I noticed the disorganization at Upper Hand pretty quickly upon starting. They say thats "start-up life" well stop using that as an excuse because there are dozens of tech start-ups in Indianapolis that are more organized structurally and have been around for a fraction of the time as Upper Hand.

Pros

-Great downtown location -Some genuinely awesome coworkers -Pay in-line with industry averages -Generous vacation

Cons

-Unqualified Management: many of those placed in team lead positions have none of the qualification or personal attributes required to be in a position of power. There was zero accountability or organization from the management. -Parking: employees were required to pay for our own parking each day. The options close to the office ranged from $10-$20 per day, which just isn't feasible for most low-level employees. Cheapest option was $4 per day, nearly a 20 minute walk away. I love the outdoors, but not so much at 7:45am in January. -Culture: one of my main draws to Upper Hand was the highly-touted culture. I truly believe that at one point in time the culture at Upper Hand was great, however that was not the case during my time there. A number of factors played into this, but it stems mainly from unhappy employees. Sales staff were reportedly not receiving commission, web design staff were overworked, and customer service were told to push add-on sales to accounts that had been ignored for months. -CEO: I can genuinely appreciate that Upper Hand's CEO saw a need in the market and devoted his life towards creating the product, however the constant ego trips and bipolar attitude took a toll. The "Shoe Dog" mentality is a great one to have when attempting to build a company, however it doesn't make you Phil Knight. -Equipment: it isn't exactly easy being the customer support end for a tech company using a 2009 Mac Book. Invest in better equipment, plain and simple. -Judgement: it wasn't uncommon for upper-management to throw impromptu get-togethers after hours in the office. Those with families and outside obligations couldn't always stay late to drink beer on a Tuesday and would typically leave the office at the end of the work day. For those of us that stayed, we heard management openly bad mouth their own employees that had left. These non-mandatory events were anything but.
