Pros

Admirable mission, beautiful grounds, four-day work-week.

Cons

People are fired at-will without being put on performance review plans. Many long-term employees with "that's the way we've always done it attitudes." Low pay. Raises when they have the money. Top-down management. Lack of communication between employees and management. Low morale. Understaffed.

Generally a disheartening experience for most

Pros

The people you work with are nice. The grounds are beautiful. Sometimes you can get to live on grounds, which is beautiful. If you like Unity as a faith, there is a lot available for you there.

Cons

Management is not in alignment with their own values. People are not paid well on the lower level jobs - they are paid as they have always been - not well. Those wages have not gone up ---but to maintain upper level "talent" - those wages are really impressive. So you are working and doing the work of several people even - and not making what you should to function in the world. As a company - they seem to want to benefit from spiritual principles - but do not want to invest in them - or the people who visit the village for them. They want to invest in spiritual principles enough to make money. People on the bottom are not valued.

The Dichotomy of "Unity"

Pros

Four-day work week. (However, this can also be a drawback when you're working with essentially a part-time staff. Most senior employees have saved up hundreds of hours of PTO and are missing in action for weeks at a time by year's end.)

Cons

Just trying to explain what this organization is points to its weakness. A seminary? A 24-hour prayer hotline? A radio station? Publisher? Retreat center? On the advice of a high-priced consultant it changed name from Unity School of Christianity to Unity World Headquarters, but did little to change its flawed organizational structure. Headquarters of what, exactly? Most people assume its the organizational base for Unity churches, but it's not. Of importance to job seekers: Because it is a religious nonprofit, it has opted out of unemployment benefits. If you are laid off from this organization, you cannot collect unemployment from it. Sadly, if you are attracted to the organization because you value Unity beliefs, you may well be disappointed in how they manifest in this environment.
