Lots of pros and cons

Pros

The benefits are amazing. More than four weeks of paid time off your first year and six weeks after a few years. Long term employees get a month sabbatical after working ten years. Excellent telework program for most employees and flex-time. The company is great to its customers/members and provides them with top quality service. Also nice location in Bethesda convenient to metro.

Cons

You have to drink a lot of Kool-Aid every day to work here. Disagreement with the decisions of top management (even constructive criticism) is not tolerated. The CEO is incredibly smart and has been there a long time. She is also ruthless, changes her mind a lot, and almost everyone is afraid of her. The work culture is intense. Before I left, approximately 10% of employees were fired every year for performance reasons. That creates a strong paranoia among employees, even ones doing a good job. No matter how much VP's screw up, the employees under that VP get blamed, particularly when surveys of employees show they are unhappy in a particular department.

Poor communication, toxic environment. Each dept. is a fiefdom.

Pros

Casual atmosphere. Metro accessible.

Cons

No room for promotion. No cooperation between departments. Appears friendly on the surface, but company doesn't allow creativity or expression.

Pros

The CEO is great and is very constantly looking for employee engagement. Benefits package and flexible schedule.

Cons

So far behind in the realm of technology and software systems. Poor management and no opportunity for career growth or promotions. The pay was below average for it's area. They don't utilize their employees skill sets.
