Pros

The benefits are amazing. More than four weeks of paid time off your first year and six weeks after a few years. Long term employees get a month sabbatical after working ten years. Excellent telework program for most employees and flex-time. The company is great to its customers/members and provides them with top quality service. Also nice location in Bethesda convenient to metro.

Cons

You have to drink a lot of Kool-Aid every day to work here. Disagreement with the decisions of top management (even constructive criticism) is not tolerated. The CEO is incredibly smart and has been there a long time. She is also ruthless, changes her mind a lot, and almost everyone is afraid of her. The work culture is intense. Before I left, approximately 10% of employees were fired every year for performance reasons. That creates a strong paranoia among employees, even ones doing a good job. No matter how much VP's screw up, the employees under that VP get blamed, particularly when surveys of employees show they are unhappy in a particular department.
